Okay, so all of the rock threads got me to thinking about how virtually all rock bands can be connected to Deep Purple. It is a stretch at times, but it makes for excellent trivia.

Here's how it works - you can travel backwards, forwards, or sideways in time to connect various performers to Deep Purple. I can connect Michael Jackson, the queen of pop, this way:

Michael Jackson had Eddie Van Halen play on "Beat It"

David Lee Roth was/is in Van Halen

David Lee Roth had Joe Satriani play on his solo stuff

Satriani played on Whitesnake's "Slip of the Tongue" album

David Coverdale is the lead singer of Whitesnake

David Coverdale replaced Ian Gillan in Deep Purple

Anyone care to play? Maybe we'll create a whole new internet phenomenon.


PS David Coverdale used to hit Tawny Kitaen when she was hot and not insane, but that's a different kind of deep purple

a buddy of mine has the the very best of rainbow. what is very interesting is the inner sleave. it has the the complete ancesrtry of all and who has played with rainbow. it was very interesting to see all the different bands who fragmented and joined into other bands. very large, trust me.

It was Steve Vai... NOT Joe Satriani who played with David Lee Roth and Whitesnake.

Country singer Faith Hill and Deep Purple:

Faith Hill is best friends with fellow country singer Shania Twain.

Shania Twain was married to super-producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange.

Mutt Lange also produced the Def Leppard albums Pyromania and Hysteria.

Vivian Campbell, now of Def Leppard played guitar in Dio.

Ronnie James Dio sang in Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore.

Ritchie Blackmore was the guitarist and one of the founding members of Deep Purple.

Excellent catch - I brainfarted the two guitar heroes! I believe Steve Vai also played for Frank Zappa, another connection. Kip Winger played for Zappa as well, so the tree grows that direction.

Shania Twain Her later stuff sounds like Def Leppard lite thanks to Mutt!

As you mentioned Dio, he sang for Black Sabbath, another connection.

Sabbath = Ozzy, so follow the trail that way....

And of course you remember Coverdale/Page - now even Led Zeppelin is linked to Deep Purple. I guess that means that Allison Krauss has a pedigree as well!!!

Now, unless I can link 'Til Tuesday to Deep Purple, I can't get a connection of Rush for Brewer. I'm sure that would be sacreligious anyway

4salt, very very good. let brewer continue abit. shania twain has since split with mutt lange. since that breakup shania has tried repeatedly to get back together with brewer. no joke! brewer is very happy with the pants.
