It whould good for steel, coho & the other smaller salmon. Allstars some guys love em others not..... Can't say that I've ever busted an 1143. i have witnessed a few people on this board break them.....i let them know there is this little thing called "drag" that can be loosened when you are running 30lb power pro on a rod rated for 8-12lb line...

I say not only do you let 'em crank their drags way down, but tell them to hold the rod about a foot above the top cork. Make sure they really pull back hard with the hand that is firmly grasping the rod blank. I always figured the 1143 made for a better 3 piece rod than anything else. Matter of fact, our very own midwest boys even published a photo of HOW to properly fish with an 1143s. _________________________ Tule King Paker
