The Browns Farm Dike Trail at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge will close for good on May 3.
The refuge is demolishing the dike to restore hundreds of acres of saltwater wetlands where the Nisqually flows into Puget Sound. This is great news for young salmon, steelhead and sea-run cutthroat trout.
But we lose a great trail -- with great birding and wildlife -- and the great sea-run cutt fishing at the refuge's McAllister Creek access.
It's a net win, I think, but I will miss that trail - and that nice sea-run spot.
More on my blog....
