Stam, I really hope you make it. I'll be looking forward to your report. EVERYONE who witnesses those beasts says the same thing....."indescribable". You gotta see it to believe it.

I blew a shitload of money on my hot rod when I was in my twenties. I had a '74 Z/28 Camaro 350 built from the bottom, polished 6:71 supercharger spun 10% over crank speeed, dual Holley 650's , chromed everything, all braided steel lines from front to back, it did look cool. I wish I took more pics, maybe I can scan a few. I was gettin ready to install a narrowed 9" ford rear when it went bad and I splattered it all over the Sears Point racetrack. I actually got more adrenaline per dollar from racing dirt bikes, I did that off & on for 10 years, Honda;s, Yamaha's, KTM, Suzuki's, they were all a rush. Ruined my left ankle doing it though, 14 screws, two ten inch plates & a bone graft outta my hip. Still wouldn't trade the motocross memories for anything. I've had a great life. I had Thomas racing BMX for several years and was living vicariously through him, he assembled quite a trophy collection. I miss that stuff.
Do make a point to hit the drags though, It is one of the most extreme things you will ever see (feel).

I'll second that, went to my first NHRA event at Pacific Raceway last July and was literally blown away. No pun. Besides all the cool pit stuff and great photo ops with drivers and cars, watching Funny Cars tear down the track and leave you feeling like you just got mildly tasered is an experience no one should miss out on. It just doesnt seem like man was meant to invent that sh!t. No human should be inside one of those things. Ashley Force isnt bad to look at either.

I used to work the ambulance rigs out at SIR as an EMT.
Extreme isn't the word for some of the injuries and deaths I tended. Good times and great trauma training. A guy will learn how to coordinate an airlift LZ in short order.

Until you have been there you just can't understand. I say it over & over, but the shockwave like roar of 16,000 horsepower blasting by you can't be described. The power is simply breathtaking. Go.

Races are this weekend! Even if you only go once in your life, it is one of those things you will never forget.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I think you'd have to stand next to a Saturn V rocket launch to feel more power than top-fuelers.
I've seen several CART races, an F5000 race, IMSA GTP races, an F-1 GP, and been to several air shows with the top military jets, and nothing socks you in the chest with horsepower like top-fuel dragsters and Funny Cars.
While I felt like blood was going to run out of my ears at the F1 race, the power from the dragsters and funny cars is more like beating you about the head and neck until you bleed from your ears.
My uncle was a mechanic on Ed 'The Ace' McCullough's funny car, The Rrrrrrevolution back in the 70's. I used to follow drag racing pretty closely back in the days of Tom "The Mongoose" McEwan and Don "The Snake" Prudhome and "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, but I've kind of lost touch. I might have to get back to paying attention.

Dan- you probably remember when the motor was in front of the driver as well - good ol' wide world of sports!
