I will have the opportunity to fish the San Juans later this month, I usually fish areas 8,9 and 10.
We will be based off of my friends 55' yacht and towing my 19' Stryker. I think we will be mostly around Lopez and San Juan Islands.
Looking fror some good general areas for Kings, my frinds don't get out fishing much and I would really like to put them into some fish.
I am usaully a troller, however I would love to jig/mooch up a nice king or two.
All good advice is appreciated, pm's are welcome.

Thanks

Anything that works for you in PS will also work in the San Juan's. The only real difference is that the tide really rips so you do need to be aware of that. Of course that can be used in your favor if you pay attention to the charts.

For locations get a fish-n-map.

Mooching is usually a pain in the ass with their typically being an abundance of dogfish. Darts along the kelp on the other hand.........especaily when the tides start ripping.

When you notice twelve planes circleing overhead pull your gear and move along as that means the Orca's and thier twenty tourist boats are on their way.

Good Luck!

forget the mooching, way too many doggies. John Martinises new book he sells in his store is full of great fishing info in the 'juans, its got maps with gps numbers, where you want to fish which tides, everything you will need to get started.

John will be able to set you up with the correct gear as well. He is a good guy. Definately get his book. The islands can be tough, however his book gives you a great idea on starting points. There are other places to fish but its not easy finding them so lots of guys wont come right out and say where, when, how. Some of the spots out here can only hold a few boats. That being said when there are fish around the islands are my favorite place to fish anywhere. Dont become discouraged if you dont hook up, keep trying when you find them it will be a nice reward. Biggest king Ive ever caught in the islands was July 11 at Eagle Bluff 70 ft of water in the bay. Your coming at a good time.

Thanks Jerry, I was on the way to the job this morning when it dawned on me that it might be "that" John. Will have to swing up that way and visit his shop next week.
I will be up there for sure the 1st weekend in August, possibly before that and after as well. Do the pinks run through the islands much?

The 55' yacht/powerboat is a friends, que the microgeek music .. . . I will be fishing out of my 19' Alumaweld, que the country music ..

The Fraser is expecting tens of millions of humpy's back this year. Getting your humpies in the San Juans will be easy. Sounds like you may want to stay in Roche with the big boat and run to Open Bay or Orcas in the Alumaweld.

Lots of disscussion on Humpies in PS, I have friends coming here for a fishing trip in July, I was told that area 11 Browns Point is hot in July, on the other hand folks are saying August 11-15-30????? Confussed here:::: Can someone please help, I am new at this but have the boat, 4 downriggers, 115 Johnson w/ 9.9 Honda and NEW lamaglass 9.5" poles, I am ready to get my line wet and see the faces of my friends when we land some fish.

Also I have been told NO TROLLING w/ downrigger, cast next to shore on the west end of browns point at incomming tide and the south end on outgoing tide,,,,, Getting a home loan is easier than understanding all this "stuff" I am a simple guy

thanks Jim

Headin out in the am on Friday, looks like we will be anchored up around Spencer Spit on the NE side of Lopez. Looks like a easy run to Thatcher, Obstruction or Tide Pt. Any reports from around there?
The other anchorage we are looking at is Mackaye Hbr on the S end of Lopez, I know that immediate area is closed, it is a short run to Eagle and Pile Pt on San Juan.
For you guys that have been fishing it lately, any advice????

Was kinda hoping there'd be a report of some kind in this post....Anyone have any recent reports?...Bellingham fishchecker checked 16 fish for 28 boats(something like that) last Sat., but otherwise it's been slow for most. I'm still zero in area 7.

I've read reports saying it's ok, but I have spent 40+ hrs fishing the last week or so and have seen one big(25lb or so) , and about 6 sublegal blackmouth caught in all the usual spots around Rosario, and one morning in Secret Harbor.

I saw 16 fish checked for 96 anglers.

Hey guys,
I just got back from the 'Juans and it's a bit on the spotty side.
We fished Eagle Point on the west side of San Juan yesterday morning with the rest of the charter fleet (Dude they were all there which should tell you something) and it was pink city! After hooking up on seven or eight we figured it was time to re-locate...

We went looking around Lime Kiln for a chinook and found a few shakers, Lots of bait and a few dogfish...
The plan was to try again this morning but the wind at my friends place near Deer Harbor woke us up at 0230. It was gusting to 30 easy.
By daylight it was still puffy so I turned complete wimp, rolled over and went back to sleep.
I know it would have been sporty outside but I regret not sticking my neck out today...
All together now: "Nelly is a weenie", "Nellie is a weenie"...

I feel the same way. I fish cause it is fun and bouncing around trying to keep your balance all the time gets old and isn't much fun.
