Old Marlin bolt action single shot .22 that I got from my uncle when I was 9. With a 2 power scope on it that thing was a bushy tail killer ! !

Remington pump action .22 that I got from my grampa. Still have it, and the boys enjoy shooting it.

Got a great 30-30 winch that still had the saddle rings on it. Old style peep sights. Just a classic. Friend of the family gave it to me when I was seven for "helping" him restore a camper. Wish I sould find someone now days to give me a gun to sit on my butt listening to Buck Owens. Saddly that gun was stolen years ago. What it would be worth I dont know.

I've given alotta rifles/pistols away,that I sort of lament.

Model 94 30-30 with the octogon barrell. I couldn't hit crap with it at 14, given to me from Dad. Had it for a few years and upgraded. Traded that rifle for a driftboat and some cash.

Dad paid $50 for it and I got $500 in the driftboat trade.

Never bought one or owned one - just grab one of Dad's and still do. Clean it up and put it back in his closet when done.

I take that back - It's not a BB gun, it's an RWS air gun bought at Warshall's. Buy it, drive to the RR tracks in S. Seattle to try it out. Put out a target (30 yard) and take a couple shots. And what did God give me? A pigeon lands right near my target. I'm shushing my girlfriend cause she is trying to talk loud enough so it will fly away. I shush STFU. I knocked that sucker out and that was like the 3rd shot right out of the box. We hightailed it outta there.

Grampa's Centennial Edition Winchester 30-30. Every summer I would spend a couple of weeks cutting firewood for him @ Anderson Island. He would take me down to the open pit dump and we would blast rats with it. Good fun!

I'll spend Eternity in Chickadee Hell,Robin Hell,Cat Hell,Starling Hell and crow Hell...amongst numerous other stops,but those are largely fueled via Blue Streak Safaris.

Until I went Rimfire and they had to hire a double shift to build enough Hells in my honor. I understand construction continues to this day and look forward to seeing my pards all together again.(grin)

My first was a Marlin model 60 semi-auto .22 (tube mag). I put brick after brick of ammo through that thing. What a wonderful rifle, great for plinkin and taking small game. I still have it and use it occasionally.

First gun that I bought was Remington 870 Wingmaster. A fine scattergun that has killed countless birds and clays, and still resides in my gun safe.

I'm embarrassed now to admit that the first hunting rifle I bought 15 or so years was a Browning A-Bolt with a BOSS in .300 WinMag. At least was smart enough at the time to put a Loo-Pold on it.

Man, I see the rifles now like the NULA's and drool.

By far, the best Zombie rifle I purchased and later sold at 6X the value was the HK91.

Ithaca 410 sxs and a model 600 Renington in 6mm which I should never have sold.

I reckon there will be a fire to [censored] over and only a fool would decline a drink around same.

First gun give to me was a Remington scoremaster.22. I killed my first gopher with it at the ripe old age of 5. My grampa passed it to me a couple years later. I still have it and it still goes to Montana on every gopher safari. To this date I have never cleaned it and it is a killer to 100yds.

First gun I bought was a Ruger 77 mkII in .223. Had a really short barrel. It was a sweet little gun and I intended to use it for deer but the "great" state of Wa. put an end to these plans. It was traded for a 7mm mag. I really wish I still had it. It was a lot of fun to shoot and would have made a great beginners centerfire for my boys. That right there is an excuse to buy another gun.

Grew up shooting the Model 12 Trombone 16 ga for ducks and pheasants

My first gun was a single shot .410 given to me by my dad on my first pheasant hunting trip in Idaho.
Don't remember the model number maybe a 37? but it was a Winchester and stamped all steel built on the barrel.
My guess is it was stamped all steel built because this was a time when they were getting away from the old damascus barrels.
This shotgun was given to him by an uncle.
He told me he got his first deer with that shot gun on the dairy farm when he was a kid.
Said the deer walked by so close he could almost touch it with the barrel.
It wasn't long before I bought a twelve gauge pump but I still remember shooting jack rabbits and grouse with that gun and can still smell the gunpowder.

In this day and age,the Kimber Montana 223 is about as good as things get for a first centerfire.

1-9" is bordering upon being very versatile.

Reality is,the chambering means little to nothing,as it's the bullet that does the work.

Often humored me that the various .224's were deemed "inept",though the 30Carbine was embraced.

There isn't too many configurations that I haven't killed something with and in a nutshell,few things matter less than projectile diameter.

Should anyone ever ask,my reply is a constant in regards to the chambering fielded and an "88 Magnum" never constitutes anything less than sheer AWE.(grin)

My first hunting rifle was a Remington 788 in 30-30 from diamond Jim's gunshop in Apache Juction AZ about 25 years ago. I still have it and it still shoots dimes.

Chances are good. I might also point out that it happened 2 states to the east. My uncle, who is a very reliable source, claims to have filled his cow tag with one. Cant get into the details as I was not present but I believe it happened none-the-less.

Diamond Jim was a real guy...the Rem 788 was made for a few years in 30-30 and typically wore walnut instead of the hardwood [censored] most own...it also wore a reputation for accuracy which mine has proven....oh and Apache Junction Arizona is a real place......

Many bought into the hype of the rear locking lug 788's,because they didn't know any better and I'm feeling "lucky" to seemingly bump into that Poster Child. I've got them wearing several flavors of tubes,several flavors of fire control enhancement and various ring/bases.

Feel free to vindicate your daydream of choice and rest assured I'll contend same,using common sense at your grave expense.

Bought same for my daughter's 1st rifle. Oldest got a S/S Model Seven wearing a PN tube in a McMillan handle and chambered 223AI. The youngest scored a Cooper 21 in 223 with fair to middlin' wood.

Love the Belgian Browning .22 Auto's and have a few extry stashed away for myself.

Am new here so please excuse if I jump right in, Firtst rifle, stevens crackshot, $3.50, exchanged 7 quarts of Maine blueberries for it at 20 cents a quart and split/ stacked guys winter wood. Had three 10 rnd packets of 22 minis and could buy shells 3@ penny at harware.
First shotgun was a colt double hammer and fired reloaded 2 1/2 inch black powder rounds with lead shot loaded by same guy i got rifle from. He let me use it for half the rabbits or partridge, ducks or squirrels until one day he was going to be sent to old farts home by kids and gave it to me. Damn thing used to have to watch and only cock one hammer for if one went they both went and no auto ejectors and if paper shells wet played hell getting emptys out and the damn barrells would roll forward and fall clean off .

Shot gun got stolen, traded rifle and $15 for a model 97 pump, jump black puddle ducks hold trigger back and pump like hell. No limit then subsistence in Maine woods. Opps got carried away.

I still lament missing Market Hunting.

Hand-me-down Savage 99 in .300 Savage with Weaver K-4 glass. Good for first deer at 11. Still have both.

.243 Mauser given to me by my father when I was 12 (32 yrs ago) straight-shootin' SOB. Gave it to my brother in Wyoming to help him keep his varmits under control.

My 7 year old just got his first gun. it is a Daisy 22lr bolt action. It is a real POS. Stock is coming off, trigger takes him 2 fingers to pull, the grip is too long and made for adult hands, all of the stock is plastic. But he loves it to death. I didnt get to buy it for him, Father in law kinda jumped in front of me with this purchase. He found it at a garage sale and swears it is worth a couple grand. I have an old rem .22 bolt rifle(my first gun) I was going to have a donor stock made to fit him and keep the original stock for when it fits him. The F-I-L beat me to the punch. He loves to shoot none the less and is getting pretty deadly with it. I take him out shooting all the time and he has already graduated to a scope. I take out all of my empty pop cans and fill them with water(you know when you hit one), he can consistently bust 8 out of a 10 round clip at 30 or so yards. If the gun fit him a little better and had a better trigger i'm sure he could do 10for10. I think from here on out I will be in charge of giving the little ones firearms.

My first rifle was an old Marlin 22 Lever Action that belonged to my Granddad it had an octagon barrel. I wish I stil had it. My brother sold it while I was living in Florida.

The first rifle I bought was a Remmington Model 742 BDL in 30/06 in 1965. Either someone wanted it more than I did or the EX wife got rid of it along with a Steoger Lugar 22 Pistol.

The first gun I hunted deer with was an Winchester Pump 12 GA Shotgun my dad had bought from some guy in Alaska. It had been stuck in a snowbank and fired so six inches had been cut off the end of the barrel. Talk about a scatter gun, that was it as there was no choke whatsoever. It put a new meaning to the term Scatter Gun.

My first non BB gun was a 22. Winchester mod. 490 semi out. I paid my uncle $290.00 for it. Still have it and won't get rid of it. It was my first gun. It just sits in the safe now. Someday I will give it to one of my kids maybe.

Right when I turned 18 I bought one of those collapsable "survival" rifles. I think Henry made them.

Not sure why they're called 'survival' rifles, because if you had to rely on one to survive, you'd be better off shooting yourself.

And even then, with a .22 you'd prolly just fug yourself up really bad and not get the job done.

On one hand it was cheap & accurate.

On the other:

It jammed every 2-3 rounds

It took 15 minutes and a screwdriver to pry the pieces out of the stock before even screwing it together.

When I went to clean it, I removed the side plate, and PING! All the springs & guts shot out like those snakes in a can and one of the tiny springs went right down the floor register and was gone for good.

I jammed what was left back in hodge-podge and sold it at the nearest pawn shop for $50.

my first was a single shot remington .22 when i was 8, 50 some years ago. still have it and still kill grouse with it. that gun has killed a lot of meat. dad used to let me kill are pigs and beef in the fall.
