Hi All,
A friend of mine just got a boat, and we wanted to check out Jeffs Head tomorrow evening. If we launched from Shilshole, can someone please tell me how to get there, and how long it takes?
FYI Small boat, only 17ft, if that matters.

Hoping to get my 1st hook up of the year.

Thanks!
Mike

Cross the sound and head north.

How long depends on how fast you are going.

Basically straight across from shilshoe.... get a map though. About 4 to 5 miles across.

Due NW from Shilshole. I'll be launching tomorrow night from Shilshole around 415ish, and can point it out if you're there. I'll be in a black Denali towing a white Arima.

You know, I think there are two good things to do:

1. Go to any fishing tackle shop and get the "Fish 'n Map" of South Puget sound ($7)
2. Get online and open up google earth (free!)

With these two tools you can plan yourself some EXCELLENT trips!

If you're feeling particularly fired up, get the North Puget Sound map too, for another $7 and you'll be covered for a long while.

Thanks for the info guys!
I got the map, and we went out for a couple of hours. Trolling along...my rod with the coho killer and small flasher goes off at 90 ft...i'm thinking my 0-fer streak since October 08 is over....rod is bouncing...
...
.,.
Dogfish! haha. I hit a small shaker, and the dogfish ate the shaker and set off the rod.

Still a great night to be on the water:)

A few years back my good friend Chris Alton and I headed out of the marina there in a 12 foot john boat with a 8hp motor. We cruised all the way across the sound to Jeffs head on glass. Well of course 4 hours later we came back in 1-2ft chop, what a ride! He hooked up right around the green tank bouy on the way over, released a 20 pounder. If I remember right we were out of bounds. I told him to head to Eb, but he let it go. Made the fish gods happy that year, as this year it's been fish on!

Does anyone have comments on the evening fishing? I can't get out in the mornings usually. Is there a good bite in the evening anywhere near Shilshole?

I see Jeff Head and Skiff Point as possibilites. And Meadow Point maybe?

Skiff and Yeomalt have been slow, I've spend a fair amount of time there and have only seen rezzie silvers taken. Seams to be kind of tweener right now.

Jeff head sucks, rarely a fish is caught there, that is the reason for all the boats there.

I am not sure I follow...

There are no fish caught there, but there are always people fishing there? That does not make sense to me.

In you opinion, what is the area to fish then?

Richard was just messing with you there Slick. Jeff produces. Study a chart though as it can be a downrigger ball eater if you aren't aware of the structure. Can also be very weedy.

In a backhanded way this is really all the advice you need to learn to catch salmon in Puget Sound, particularly if you are a downrigger fisherman. Go to the biggest concentration of boats you can find and watch who catches fish. Follow them, match their speed, lures, and depth their fishing. Learn by observation and an occasional question. Be the report that everyone else is reading rather than fishing.

Thanks fellas. I do pay pretty close attention when I am able to get out and fish. I just have limited time and would like to make the most of my opportunities when I get a chance to be on the water. I will keep trying!

I heard that edmonds produced some fish on sat. off the oil docks, and out front of the pier.
