I picked one up on Sunday, I have been using FoodSaver ll for years, and after 6 months the salmon fillets get freezer burn. So for 350 bucks, the Cabellas commercial grade one will keep the fish long enough for me to smoke up prior to restocking in the spring.
Does anyone use the Cabellas Sealer, if so do you recommend this over the Sportco Pro 2300?

I just use a $100 model from Costco and seem to have good luck, a year is pushing it though for quality fish out of the bag...

I have had a Cabela's CG-15 for a year and a half. I also used foodsaver sealers before I bought this model. It is a great sealer. I can't give a comparison with the pro 2300. They look similar to me. I do not like the Cabela's bags with the mesh only down the center. It is difficult to get air pockets out. I just ordered bags online with full micro mesh that work much better.

Fishcatcher, take me to school, bags with micro mesh, please explain, I have only used the food saver stuff at this point and of course am always trying to do better. Also if these bags are indeed superior to food saver's , how do we get ahold of them.........Thanks.........Chuck G

N.W.P. I just got my order back from Dougcare. Great bags at acost less than foodsaver by about 15-20%. They have a great selection and fast service. I buy the 10"x24" and cut them in half. Works great for a large part of a fillet. You can get the micro mesh or the embossed.

Not only should you get the bags from Dougcare, you should get the vacpacker, too.

Best thing I ever did was to do the research 5 or so years ago and invested in one of the Dougcare machines.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: +1 Dougcare and the products they offer.

Read all the replys on Cabellas on this CG-15, and they were all positive.
They have 50' roll of 8" for $20 bucks, plus various other bagging sizes.
I have rolls of plastic tube in all widths here at work, I was going to see if they hold the pressure and seal?

With the CG-15 foodsaver bags do not work. Micro mesh or micro channel bags have far more channels that allow the air to be pulled out of the bag compared to the foodsaver bags. In manual seal mode this allows you to work out air bubbles. The foodsaver bags seal up and doesn't allow the air to be removed when used with the CG-15. Stronger vacuum maybe ? Cabelas sell bags with a micro mesh channel that only is 4" wide on an 11" wide bag. These do not work well. I ordered my bags from Vacuum sealer bags . com. If you do a search on pro 2300 vacuum sealer, there are video demonstration of it in use. It pulled 28 psi.

Which Dougcare vacpacker would you recommend going with? Our Foodsaver is about to go on the fritz.

Thanks

I'd at least look at the Food-Vac and the Fast-Vac. I haven't done the research on those units, so I don't know what to say about them.

Them model I have is/was something in between the Food-Vac and Fast-Vac.

How much packing probably would determine what you should get. If you do a lot, I'd probably lean towards the Fast-Vac. If you only did a little bit, the Food-Vac would be fine.

I'm all over commercial type appliances, so I'd gravitate towards the Fast-Vac if I hd to buy one now. Probably over-kill for me, but at least the thing would last forever.
