Oddly enough, there was a ginormous Giant House Spider hunkered down on the stairs to my basement this morning.

I put the poor thing in a pint jar and gave it to the kids. After Alex (the 4 year old) threatened to take it to his daycare house today, I had to take away their new "pet" and put it on the mantle.

Now that I know these ugly huge monsters are harmless house spiders, if it survived the trauma that is Alex, I'll let him (the spider, not Alex) go outside when I get home.

I tried taking some macro photos of the spider, but apparently the lens on my SLR isn't the best at macro shots.

I dunno about 'harmless.'

One bit me on the thigh one night and the next morning there was the twin pin holes .5cm apart and a silver dollar sized bruise.

The next day the bruise was the size of my foot.

The day after that, my entire thigh was purple that lasted a few more days as it gradually faded to a jaundice-yellow 7 days later.

How can that possibly be OK for pets and humans.

This is the time of year when I walk out the front door in the dark that some 8 legged critter has spun a web spanning the porch. Creeps me out.
