Kinda has a ring to it.
I didn't really want ot start a "save the Stik thread". or hijack another, But.....
Are you thick or thin skinned?
Do you enjoy a good sour mash and spew off every once in a while?
Is diversity a bad thing?
I know a few didn't care for the over the top thing. But really, was it that bad?
I Know that I have an affliction to all things new. And it seems that this guy always had something new to boast about.
Is there such a thing as verbal sparring?
Is there anyone that would personally Referee/moderate?
It seems to me that this whole mess could of coulda been snipped in the bud with an Oh Well stroke of the delete button. (for Sticks sake).

Oh and for demonstrational purposses only.
No dis to the mod.

My skin is as thick as some of the heads over at Unleashed.

After all the short jokes, and the tossing the rod and reel overboard jokes, not a single person has been set on fire.

I think dude was really looking to get axed, though. I figured the Sky Gal crack was going to be the straw.

I'm glad I'm not a mod. Thankless job, really.

Not close, not by a mile...and like you said, Stam, BS pushed the mod into the corner and only left him one way out...either way, I think BS wears it as a badge of honor to get banned from every board other than araig.com...

Having been an Admin or Moderator on about a dozen different sites, I can certainly respect it when a Mod pushes the button to finally remove a problem member.

IMO, what makes a good moderator is their sense of fairness and ability to communicate that, and the ability to "push the button" when it has to be done along with the wisdom to know when not to. Mod-harassment is a felony offense on any of my sites, and the offender is generally awarded the boot.

The thing about this site, is that unlike so many of the 'other' places, this one allows people to have a personality. While there are rules, it doesn't feel like you are in grade school.

This place feels like a group of, get this, friends. It has a feel like a group standing around a campfire; trading stories, swapping tales, and passing a bottle or two. You can relate an event without divulging location, color lure, or secret cure, in full expectation of someone calling B.S., another applauding your adventure, and a few others silently nodding as they recount their own similar exploits.

We've all sat around with friends, listening to the same stories, from the same people, with exaggerations to details growing proportional to the amount of liquid memory being consumed. There's always the guy that likes to brag, or the one who flaunts the nicest gear, or who catches more/less/biggest/smallest/darkest/freshest..., there's usually a guy or two who drinks a little too much and burns a chair then and passes out early, and there are a couple quiet guys just riding the buzz, enjoying the moment. The next morning, we're all back to normal, doing our thing catching fish or hunting something, and having fun.

The nice thing about the interweb, besides sites exclaiming certain individuals as fishing legends... is that if you don't like something, you can choose not to click on it. You can pick another topic, go check e-mail, turn the damn thing off and tinker on the boat... whatever. Nobody has you in a choke hold in the front yard, calling you a bodagget. Granted, singling a person out (especially one with the Ban Wand) is taking it a bit far, but aside from that, people can choose to read/ignore/involve themselves in whatever they please... hell, just look that the KK/Hankster grudge match that’s in about Round 2,793 by now... What if, instead of banning Stick, any 'abnormally critical' or 'calling out' type posts, were simply mod edited to say, "I love kittens"? Win-win?

I'll wrap up with this. My girlfriend NEVER read a post on ifish, or any other site. 'BoyMyspace' has never gotten a rise out of her... BUT... she read Stick posts, usually while sipping a barley beverage.

I agree 100%.

However Big Schtick was the guy who drove his jacked up 4x4 into the campsite, pissed on the fire and started calling everyone a pussy for not being from Alaska....on nearly every fuggin' post he made. Even when the topic had nothing to do with Alaska.

If he'd been from Texas and fished for Bass & Walleye, he'd have been 86'd after post #3.

BUT...what if, mid-fire piss, Sky Guy sneaks up, jumps in the vacant jacked up truck, yells, "I love kittens!" out the window, and he hauls a$$ into the darkness?

Oh, and anyone from Texas/bASSmaster lineage, should be choke-slammed on the intro post... 2cents

I never missed Stick when he was banned 2 or 3 years ago. He acted like an a$$hole in every post he made. This time he was still an a$$hole, but slightly less extreme, and he posted some good photography.

I asked Stam why he and many this time seemed to be sucking up to Stick since he was still being basically an a$$hole. Stam vouched that Stick is a nice guy in person. Stick isn't on this BB in person. He was here as an internet character, just like everyone is. On the internet he's an a$$hole, period.

A website's only value is its content. Except for some photography this go round, Stick was an a$$hole who added no value. Anyone who can't post without gloating about how great he is at whatever he does, and how everyone else in the universe sucks no matter what they do, is an a$$hole at best, and I'm not really sure when it comes to less than the best, not being all that well schooled in psychology.

It's not about being thick skinned. Like Dan S. mentioned, he's taken more than his share of internet abuse for an accident that could happen to, well, maybe not anyone, but could happen to many, and he hasn't burned anyone's house down - - - - yet. It's about adding value to the content of Bob's website, or at least not subtracting value from it. And that's what posts like Stick's do. They reduce the website's value.

Guess this means I won't be getting an invite from Stick to come up and fish his personal crick fulla' chrome, and a few boot, salmon and steelhead.

His internet persona was "angry ass clown with very poor social skills bordering on sociopath", in person, who knows. I personally would never choose to be in the same county with him. .. . . . an internet persona is like a woman PMSing, it just highlights attributes that are already there and gives an excuse for the behavior .. .IMO

I'm not sure where his InterWebz persona comes from, but from what I hear from those who have met him, and from the little bit of private communcation I've had with him, he seems straightforward and pleasant enough...honestly, so do most folks, once you meet them in person and separate them from their InterWebz schtick.

Big Sticks return to PP was on a conditional basis. He came back under another alias, and in good faith I stepped forward and gave him his old ID back, and asked him to follow the rules & treat others with respect around here. I also did this as something of a favor to Stam because he vouched for him and because I considered Stam a friend. That was my only mistake here, because anyone I would call my friend wouldn't take a shot at me like he did above. I'm not about to fall into Stick's trap of participating in an arguement, because that's exactly what he wants. I'll take the high road, thanks...

It didn't take long for BS to start bashing people again, and I gave him a couple days on the bench to think about his behavior here. I made it very clear that I did not want him to insult others and post incessantly on every topic, and that if he wanted to remain a contributing member here.... to play nice. My words were ignored, and with his actions, he basically told me to fuckoff. Stam was right that things are not always as they seem. In this case, they were much worse than they seemed, as I grew very tired of deleting tons of his derogatory and insulting posts towards other members. I don't expect all of you to understand because this was mostly invisible to you.

I'm not going to allow this website to become a cesspool for him to come take a dump in every day. If he wants to spew his self-centric crap, he can go to his own website and bellow to all of his ballwashers there. I'm sure it isn't as much fun as all the attention he received here on PP because the audience is a lot smaller....I wonder why?

Bob and Corey have entrusted me to help mantain the integrity of this forum because they knew I had a good idea of what's right and wrong, ...of what's acceptable and not acceptable around here. This website is more much more lax than other sites, but there are still rules of engagement that can't be ignored. If you need a refresher, the link is at the bottom of the page.

I'm not about to betray that trust, or give anyone a "bye" to not follow the rules. I'm also not going to ignore my gut feelings on what's right and wrong.

This is a place for all of us to share ideas, reports, stories, ask questions, debate, argue about fishing, hunting, the politics thereof, and all of the rest of the interesting things this world has to offer. It's not a place to insult other's because they are any more or less of a sportsman than anyone else, which is apparently Stick's modus operandi.

Further, There are plenty of fantastic anglers you can learn from here who won't bash you in the process. Fisherman who don't stand over a pool of 2000 salmon or 200 steelhead and thump their chest for being a 'good angler.' Just callin' it like I see it....

Finally, This place is also a far cry from I-fish and how it's moderated. That's a big stretch that I don't comprehend, and borderline insulting in itself.

First I think the Mods do a great job, it is thankless and I would not do it. Second I agree with Twitch that it feels like an extended group of friends who could shoot the [censored] around the campfire. I would add that the group is diverse, we have doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefs and everything else. We are not always going to agree, but we have to stay with in boundaries. Those who push the boundaries are fun ( think SOL) those who violate the boundaries after being warned, well they make their own bed, now they have to sleep in it. I remember talking to a PP member around a campfire once, about internet bravado, If Stam is right about BS he defines just that. All of the board members I have met, to an individual match there internet persona.. Anyway Alaskan winters are long and lots of time staring at the monitor and not being able to add your two cents worth.. well that is punishment enough

Classic picture! BS is jerking off to PP.

Seriously though, BS cracks me up. It can sometimes be hard to wade through his writing, which is, if nothing else, consistently strange and derogatory. He is definitely a polarizing character on this message board, and if I had to characterize his internet persona I would say he is generally a blowhard douchebag.

However, it is wrong to think someone is anything like their internet persona, because nobody really is. In real life I am an a-hole, and I have only caught like 3 fish, and those were in the pond at the Puyallup fair. I would like to meet BS off-line and see what he is really like, because clearly he is dialed in, in his fish and game pursuits.

BTW, BS I am going to be in Hollis for a while next Aug/Sept, dates to be confirmed this spring.

The trouble with being entertained by Stick's posts is that it's like being entertained by someone who tells the joke about the Special Olympics (even if you win, you're still retarded.) In many circles, including PP, you get a bye to do it once. But if you're entertained by that form of humor repeatedly, what positive thing does it say about you?

I can't believe I'm contributing to this waste of bandwidth, guessing that BS is sitting in front of his monitor, so laffin'.

The rules are few and far between on PP, the other 3 large boards around here would have axed most of us long ago. Moderating is an entirely thankless job that few on here would do for long--- ask Parker. I meet Big Stick and liked him well enough, but on the internet he likes to push the boundries and make his own rules to live(and die) by. How about we set him up where his posts have to be moderator approved before they are seen by PP members? The problem with banning BS is that anybody on POW Island also gets the axe because IP address For POW gets banned.

Jerry,

Have to agree with the thanklessness of moderating. BTW, thanks for the job that you do!

I think reinstating BS would be a disservice to the board's integrity, you know, the say what you mean; mean what you say kinda' thing. As for POW having a single IP address, it would be a problem if POW were a vital part of the PP community. I haven't noticed anyone else posting from there, so is it a real problem? Aside from some cool wildlife photos, how many oversize pics of dead fish and game do we need on this site? I think the better alternative is for Stick to create his own website, and his ballwashers and admirers can go there and worship him. It would be fitting and consistent with his narcissist psyche to compete to be better than everyone, letting his website stats fall where they may.

Readers can only go by what's posted here. He might be a cool guy in person, but on here he's an ass.
I guess the surprising number of leg riders he had this time around should have been an indication of how many defenders he would have when he got banned.

I think gathering some followers because he's obviously good at catching fish and shooting game is cool...and being a bit struck by his excellent photographs is par for the course...but the others who probably can't talk because they're busy gargling his sack and bruising their knees are kinda pathetic...no matter who they are, or what board they're on.

The part about approving BS's post would only work if a moderator had enough time in the day to read and edit all of them, I don't have that kind of patience.

Now we're getting somewhere!

A coupla' minor changes and it's f'n gold! Add two new forums on this board! One guarded by sugar plum fairies and candy canes labeled "Salmo G, class is in session" dry but informative posts only, for those seeking *the answers*, full censorship, no "ass" no "bitch" no "hell" ...no problems, group hugs, ascots and plenty of sniffling down the noses at the unedumacated underlings, no entertainment allowed.

The other guarded by Jolly Roger's and fueled by Pendleton, labeled "Big Stick, enter at own risk" turn the censors off, turn the heat up....hickory shirts and hoody's with the sleeves chopped off 'cause you ran out of asswipe required, where those that resist domestication can talk bullsh!t without getting rapped on the knuckles with a ruler.

Let the *stats* fall where they may!!

Good call Salmo, I like it...................
We got a WINNER !!!! Stam...fine post !

As usual, I missed all the drama preceding the boot and deletion of the bloody crime scene....

BS's persona and prose reminded me of one Clete Purcell, a character in James Lee Burke's crime novels. Both are entertaining in their proper fictional context. Neither have a substantive impact in my daily life. The real Stick probably could. I do wish that the real man behind the BS persona could show up somewhat in this venue and share some of his knowledge, stories and spectacular photography from life's unique experiences up north rather than playing the part of an internet, ultramag tough guy.

Stick, you're a big dude. You have big rifles, big fish, big chainsaws, big opinions and maybe even a big heart for those close to you. In real life, I'd bet that you're someone that would be truly appreciated in camp when it comes time to pack out a Yukon moose or add laughter to the midnight howl of a wolf while the campfire make a glass of Pendleton glow like the northern lights. Your also likely a big enough man to privately apologize regardless of the outcome. Until the mods decide to give you another chance or your own forum, I wish *you* the best....

So, far this has been possibly the most, "hit the nail on the head" post, in my opinion.

He seems like an ok chap, it's just the comment on every single post that gets a bit redundant.

Example.....

Member ABC...."The sky was blue"

Stick's response..."I would fair to venture that a pard equivalent of your stature would make a clearly obvious and uneducated forthright commentary. Only when a fellow steps away from his own looking glass can he see the true prismatic reflections that the heavens cast downwards on a rather regular basis. Perhaps when your manhood drops away from it's higher set pouch, down to where it should ride, you can see this. Until then, quit making such trivial commentary to those of us who made the heavens."

the end wink

Stam,

Maybe you think we're getting somewhere. Let the Stick create his own website and forum at his own expense. You're overlooking how it would be in Bob's interest to bear the bandwidth burden of hosting an egomaniac's personal internet forum. I don't understand why the flip side of that asshole looks good to you, but hey, it's a diverse world, and I've trained myself to value diversity. And dry and informative as my posts are, when you need that group hug, I'll probably be there for ya'.

Sugar plum fairies and candy canes . . . jeezez, what you drinking?

Is Stick getting paid some sort of endorsements somewhere? Maybe I missed something, but the last I checked, he was not getting paid for being a member on here.

Parker, you need to hurry up and get that new camera figured out. We are going to need someone to fill the void of "nature photographer".

I've been on a bunch of different sites that BS was also on. In the past few years, hes done a complete 180. He never used to act like the asshole he does now. He didn't have the million dollar vocabulary,he didn't bash people every chance he got.

He was just a normal dude, that had a lot of killer insight and didn't mind sharing his knowledge.

Somewhere along the way he decided that acting like a douche was a better way to go. Acting like a douche has literally gotten him kicked off every site but his own though.

I think hes got a problem with the whiskey. You could read his posts over the course of an afternoon and watch him start the downward spiral.

Its too bad,he used to be a great addition to any board. Nowdays, hes just a dick.

Stam,

I am light as the day of the lighter than air fair. Just because I went to college hardly makes me ooze academia. Haven't I mentioned that I'm a south county hillbilly (gives me redneck hillbilly rights) who rode bucking steers in the junior rodeo, worked in the woods bucking logs on the landing (illegally even then) at age 14-16, my step-dad's hired hand was named "Tex" who had a drinking and fist fighting habit and taught me to drive at 12, cuss, and some other things my folks weren't privy to, and one of my closest childhood neighbors was a convicted moonshiner named Irish Malamphy who formerly was a logger. But none of 'em taught me how to fish dammit! Had to figure that out myself. T'weren't all book larnin' Stamster. Call me when ya' need your chain saw sharpened . . . or want to go fishing - that would actually be better!

Always appreciative of the best,

Sg

I'm pretty much "that guy" when it comes to photography. You know "that guy" when it comes to fishing.........

"That guy" is fishing for humpies with a yellow rod and gets all excited at the first boot slimer he catches.

Yeah, I'm "that guy" with a camera.

When it came to photography, Stick was the guy with the IMX and the Revo Toro fishing for coho wondering how and why the yellow short bus unloaded it's cargo on the river while he was there.

Gay is running off a guy for taking well needed jabs at sweater wearing L.L. Bean models.

The ones most rubbed raw are the ones who thought pinks were more than swimming cans of Friskies.

Entertaining it is to witness how everybody can defend themselves with keyboards when the big bad bully is banned. However the backlash was for naught when the sparing was available.

Bet all the real pros are glad they will be able to post great pictures of chums here soon without fear of a healthy poke.

Pinks are for cats, Chums for dogs.......I guess they are bragging rights too if your $300 rod rarely gets bent. (Testing the drag too, eh?)

Don't it feel good to be able to hug and love each other again?

The Patsys are safe again. No need for improvement here anymore. Everybody is just fine the way they were made......just like Momy said.

Thinning the strong from the herd never improves the lot as a collective.

How do some people survive on a day to day basis, in the face of "adversity"? The general consensus seems to bring to the conclusion many here must live a dangerous life as tampon salesmen.

Don't like getting goaded? Can't handle a little poke? Either up the quality of the self, or sharpen up the quality of the rebuttal.

So, let it be known, go on back to singing "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". You just let this place become more neutered and about as safe as a brochure.......go ahead and gloat now about how much ass you kicked.

The definition of strong of this herd should be the one who catches/kills the most/best.

Richest means the most money in a group, does it not?
Guys knockin 35k aint gonna be seen on Forbes 500. Think the chaps on that list got small egos? Think they make that kind of jack being candied asses?

As heart warming as it may be to try to give empty seats to have nots, tips to apprentices, and coordintate turnarounds (reacharounds).......that does not equate to being the hardiest in a group.

If the rough and tumble banter was coming from somebody who was all hat and no cattle, finger pointing and jeering should ensue. All bets in that realm were covered in blisteringly high definition pictures. Hard to argue with results, however coarse the delivery is.

Git the sand out of your vag.

FREE BIG STICK

Like I the measure of a website or a person's internet persona is by your yardstick only? Could be you're as narcissistic as Stick. Stick fishes where it's like the proverbial shooting ducks in a barrel. Only a fool would compare that to any fishing here in WA. Your rough and tumble only looks like it might be something when it's not subjected to any analysis. Your blustery swagger is far more impressive than your substance. Ya' got any of the latter?

This topic has run it's course, and everyone has said their piece.
Think I'll send this one to the depths of the darkside archives, with a lock.
