There are no Rvrplnrs, Rvrrfls, or Rvrtubs in the development stages...sorry. The rest is some good information.

Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions about what to use, or how to use it, regarding our stuff.

Fish on...

Rossiman and Broodbuster obviously know their craft. Nicely described. I guess the only thing I'll add is if your in doubt about which color to use, bet on silver, second choice would be copper unless there are loads of leaves coming down the river. (we don't want to confuse em') In the past I would follow the clear water copper and colored water silver rule in basic terms but as the seasons go by I'm finding that I buy way less copper spoons because the silver seems to break all the rules and fish well in all conditions. The 50/50 is an awesome spoon, I just can't afford buying too many at a time. 2cents

Me, either, with the price of gold going through the roof...brass, gold, silver, copper...you get what you pay for, but the 'real' stuff sure works a lot better than the fake stuff.

I was cryin' every time "the magic trick" didn't work up North and I'd lose another 50/50 RVRFSTR or PenTac.

Ouch.

Oh well, someone has to keep these two companies in business.

I still love the smooth sliver discontinued RVRFSTR's. They worked awesome this year! thumbs

I plan on restocking my supply of RVRFSTR's soon. I am interesting in learning more about "stacking" the spoons. Can someone elaborate on that?

I can think of a couple runs that I plan on fishing where I may need to run a "DBLFSTR".

What's the setup look like?

My wife got the 41" fish in my moniker on a silver spoon in super low clear water. Lucky girl only fished with us two days. I like having her around!

I've fished many types of spinners, and the RVR stuff amazes me with how quickly the blade catches water.
They turn at very low retrieve speeds, and are a perfect weight for accurate casting.
I use it with 12lb braid, and can huck it a country mile...straight up in the trees.

Jack, you just stack two together of whatever color or size you want, and then put large round split rings through both spoons, locking them together...it's how I fish them about half the time.

I still wish RVRFSTR would come out with a heavier spoon - double stacking is lame-o. Too much damn work on my end.

The reason they spin so well is 100% thanks to Joe's body design...the weight forward design and shape allows for the use of .028" blades, which spin much easier and at a slower speed than do the standard .032" blades...it makes a significant difference.

Is that for in the "meat" of a run where there is more current/depth? Then do you switch to a single for the tailouts?

I got's lots to learn.

We're still in development on a 3/4 oz. and 1/3 oz. spoon...expect the 1/3oz. spoon for next summer, hopefully the 3/4oz. spoon by next winter...

Depends more on water depth and speed more than anything else...hard to say unless you're standing there looking at a piece of water.

I really like the "on/off" blink you get with a dark spoon stacked behind a shiny one wink

Yes and no.

As you get out of the deeper part of the hole, start quartering your casts more down river. That will prevent the spoon from hanging up in the tailout.

You can also try feathering a lighter spoon after casting more upriver to fish the deeper slots, but more often than not, the guy with the heavier spoon get's the fish down deep.

Getting lazy and content isn't a benefit to the hardware fishermen.

I got lazy and content on a day that went from dark to bright and kept using a silver spoon while NealM switched up to a darker copper/brass spoon and proceeded to school me. Was a fun show, though. At the end of the day, I was pissed at myself for being so stupid and not obeying a basic law of spooning.

Realize that Jed co-founded Pen-Tac. I'm not sure that talking down the #1 competitor made him an idiot? Besides, in deep, fast, cold water (ie most winter steelhead water), his statement is true.

The main flaw I find with the book is that he didn't fish much of the northwest before writing it. Most of his fishing experience was in the midwest, southern Willamette Valley, and central Oregon coast. The way fish respond to various spinners in other parts of the northwest is sometimes very different than what Jed wrote. The section on reading water for steelhead based on temperature is the best how-to-read-steelhead-water section I've read in any book. Regardless of how I fish, I still read water with "Jed's eyes".

Also, Jed is a PHD psychologist. This book coined the term "threshhold of attraction", which is the best explaination I've ever heard for why fish bite some lures and not others. I've seen Herzog himself reference the term as revolutionary in the world of steelhead fishing.

The book is a must-have for any serious hardware fisherman.

That single one quote probably influenced my steelhead fishing more than any other period.

brewer is very close to finishing my book. i have had it in the works for over a year. it covers all aspects of PNW fishing. i'm fine tuning possibly the final chapter now. which explains how to mentally chart a hole. find every snag in the hole or drift. i explain that this can be done two ways. 1st is to lose as many rigs as possible to learn where the rock grabbers are. the 2nd is to put a money value on how much it will take in lost $$$ amount before you learned where not to cast anymore.

i've coined some great terms too. take for example when learning to spot fish in a drift. " if you can't see that chinook right there! your a idiot!!!"

another great chapter is brewer's ragging on rvrfshr spoons and plugs.
