Hi,

I was in a pawn shop today and they had a Fenwick fly rod in a case for $19.95. It was a short, I think 5.5 or 6'.

Would it be worth picking up?

I have not fly fished for years but may soon. I had always used longer rods though.

Thanks

Sounds too short for most fly fishing applications. I have a 6 foot, 1 weight rod for fishing very small streams. But for a general trout fly rod, you should be thinking of a 9 foot 5 weight. Fenwick used to make cross-over rods, meaning you could use them for fly or spin fishing. The rod in question may fall in this category.

As far as whether it is worth it, that depends on how much you value $19.95. Only you can answer that question.

Ask yourself how you would use it. There are a lot of shorter lite line rods that get used on small streams. I have a 2 and 3 wt Sages that are 7'9" and I have fished them in areas where I could have used a shorter rod.

Like DD said it could well be one of their back packer rods fly/spin combos.
