Nope no elastic on the waist. The fabric is Under Armors patented Cold Gear fabric, which is good for layering and wearing alone. It wicks sweat away from the body and if your wearing a good polypropylene base layer that should keep you warm down into the 20's/30s. I wear either Polartec or UA under it and have fished in Idaho on several occasions with temps around 10-15 degrees, and was fine. Don't count out the Polartec 300 fleece pullover though: That thing rocks and is super warm...

This is so easy, I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet. Hooded Flannel. Check Wal-Mart. Not only is this thing cool looking it is functional as sh!t. Say it is a cold day and you know you need the warmth of lined flannel over your waders, but little do you know there is going to be wind. Well when all your buddies are flipping up their collars . . . boom! You throw up your attached hood. Say you want to just bare chest it in the summer, but it is cold in the morning, then you wear this, unzipped. Say you have a wedding or court after you go fishing, well you wear your slacks under you waders, and your hooded flannel. Hood up or down as the conditions require. Then when you get to the function, tuck that sh!t in, put the hood inside the collar (kind of humps up like a linebacker), and unzip just enough to show a little of your chest hair, but stay classy with it. I don't have time to go into the options when you cut the sleeves off one of these.

A J&H Carhartt hoodie is by far, THE MOST ULITMATE hoodie out there today. Toss on a EAR hat and a MAP Grunden's Windstopper fleece jacket, and it's GAME OVER for the fish. I never leave home on a fishing trip without 'em!

"I would go with the Nike WSU hoodie. It is a standard piece of my fishing equipment."
As a fish rag. And for a little more you can get the official game worn WSU team fish rag complete with in game cleat marks.

The JH is an outstanding choice, stronger than boiled owlshit, heavyweight and warm on a cold dry day...plus JBH is deserving of some press I rank it about an 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 ....but, the under armour hoody is the ultimate for those dreary DAMP days, it scores a 9.8 with the only points being deducted because they don't say "JH" on them. I gotta ask..... Boiled owlshit how and why would you know this ????

Yeah I do like the warmth and wicking of the fleece.
My concern is most of the fleece I own seem's not to be as durable. The hoody get"s worn alot and also as an outermost layer Just plain take's alot of abuse will the High end fleece hold up ?

The hoody get"s worn alot and also as an outermost layer Just plain take's alot of abuse will the High end fleece hold up ? +1 No. Fleece will not hold up. That's why it's important to layer. They key is layering. One can never be "too warm" when fishing from now until summer time. A cotton hoody will hold up and can be abused really heavily. If it's truly too cold for just the hoody, I'll put a windstopper fleece jacket over the hoody. If it's wet out, on goes the G4 SIMM's jacket. That puppy keeps any wind and rain out. Slap a fleece or windstopping touk on my head and the hoodie top is just a bonus layer in keep the cold off of my neck and head. But, he's right in that a cotton anything won't keep you that warm. Fleece us much better for warmth.

Alright I am getting the carhartt "hooded sweatshirt" for now(sorry stam no offense still resisting the high tec stuff),not really worried abought cold, rain, just want a go to "hooded sweatshirt" that will hold up and be like an old pair of jeans.
As far as the owlshit goes the only thing I know at this point is last year while sitting in a stand watching a bunch of does waiting for the horned version. Here comes this barn owl and proceed's to sit in the tree right next to me then start hooting and making a bunch of flippen noise.Don't think the doe's saw me but it sure put them on alert and the buck never showed..
I really wanted to make it so that owl never shat again.
I'll see if I can find out a little more.
I have no idea were to get the JBH version.
Thanks for the input guy's

Alright I am getting the carhartt "hooded sweatshirt" for now Hold on there son, I have that big heavyweight cotton Carhart, & its on the bench. The Under Armour Cold Gear hoodie is a large step up & worth the $$. Its lighter, thinner & just as warm. A big PLUS is it drys out fast, that cotton hoodie gets wet & your gonna stay in that wetness all day. Trust me on this, 1/2 way down to Barlows I pulled a 360 degree underwater vertical spin move off the side of a Puma last February IN about 4 feet of Hoh with ol' cotton on. It sure made for an interesting afternoon. c/22

I am just resistant to the high tech stuff' Tried and tried the gortex, poly blah blah stuff but always end back up in the wool and grunden's in the nasty weather. Have not tried the under armour brand very happy with filson merino wool. Probably a different story if I was hiking, sweating and such but most of the time I am in the boat. Do appreciate all the input. Still Studying up on the owlshit. c/22

I agree that fleece is a great warmer, but I usually will wear it as a base layer. Cotton sweatshirts are not a good outer layer in rain/snow but neither is fleece. Basically what I do for my upper body in winter conditions (and everyone has their own methods) is as follows: thermal shirt (hot chillies or Under $$ Armor) or fleece shirt > hooded zipper Carhartt sweatshirt > shell (I use a Special Blend shell I used to use for snowboarding). That setup paired with a fleece beanie (skullcap) and a waterproofed boonie hat keeps me pretty darn dry and warm. being able to drop the shell and still keep warm is why I have found the Carhartt much better than other sweatshirts. Your mileage may very. *edit - Fleece shirt http://www.amazon.com/TAIGA-Polartec-Mic...524&sr=1-20

I wear hooded sweatshirts around the house and/or town all the time. If I'm going out in a boat, or getting a long ways from the truck with chance of getting wet, then it's fleece. Wet cotton clothing, a long ways from support, can get you really cold.
