Cleaning up in my shop today, and I ran across this old Tackle Board I've had hanging up for long time, so thought I'd share it with some of the tackle afficianados here. I originally picked it up from a friend's estate who was shot & killed at a Gorge Ampitheater concert in 2002. R.I.P Leonard Smaldino. This is a Martin 'Engineered' Spoon "Ace bait & OttoGator" tackle board displaying all 36 original spoons from their line that year. I'm guessing it was made sometime in the mid-1970's, but I'm not sure..... any of you old-timers know? Some pretty fishy looking stuff.... I've got a bunch of other old stuff laying around too, maybe I'll post up some of it later on. Anyone else collect or have old some cool tackle memorabilia from 20th century Salmon and Steelhead fishing?

Wait.... Upper left and right, that's where those damned rvrfshr boys got the idea, go figure, copy cats. Wow though, there is some really fishy looking stuff up there, very cool piece of history. I have a bunch of old salt plugs, fresh water spoons, real Okie drifters, and other random gear I inherited from my Grandfather. One of the stranger things in the box is a bunch of these plastic trolling spoons that were popular in New Zealand (one of his favorite places to fish after retirement). I’ll try and get some pictures up.

Those 2 on the bottom left look like Krocodiles. Wonder if they came up with them first?

I have a friend, Dick Streeter, who is one of the top NW experts on old tackle. If you want I can send you his email addy. I'm sure he would love to tell you what he knows about the Martin display board.
When I was a kid, I got .50 a week allowance. I had a choose between two comic books @ .10 each and one triple teaser @ .29 each or two comic books and one humongous ice cream cone @ .25 each. Standard cones were .10. I usually chose the Triple Teaser. I could get a Flatfish for .49 but that was a real splurge.

A guy I know near Lincoln City has his entire house packed with vintage fishing gear. I mean, this place rivals any museum, ANYWHERE. Literally hundreds of rods, hundreds of reels, OLD OLD...complete with original boxes, paperwork... he has wires running the width of the walls, with all kinds of old lures and flies hanging off them. It is seriously the most rediculously awesome display of goods I've ever seen.
The only 'good' thing I've ever had, was a spinner of sorts I found at a yard sale, still attached to its display card, with a 1927 date stamped on it. I was in college at the time, and since I was paying all that on my own...an old spinner, though cool, looked like $$$ to me, so I Ebay'ed it (and bought a term's worth of books!)

RF,
I'll take that 53SW 5/8 oz. Ottogator on the bottom of the card... I mean literally when I come to your house ! Glad to see you got some good use out of those .22 cent "X-mas gifts" I gave you last year. (Even though OP gave them to me the year before, hook bonnets and all.)
I've got an original Okie card with all colors intact/attatched and my buddy has the original "dancing Little Cleo" card with all spoons intact/attatched.
Also have some Grizzly and Buell brand Lil' Guy drifter plugs still in original packaging.
Thanks for sharing Sky G.

Nice topic ! Those are just too cool. I'm into the Pflueger Colorado spinners myself, have dozens in all sizes/finishes on the stock cards. Personal favorite is the No. 2123 size 1 w/ silver front / brass backed blade & 2 offset long shank single hooks. That's $$ right there. My dad started me off on them in the Cedar river back in the 60's. My 1st "go to" lure...... Used South Bend glass spin rods & Zebco cardinal 3 reels, oh & Royal Bonnell (sp?) mono c/22

Now that's darn funny. Good on ya for making the right choice Dave.

Is that the Cardinal C3 spinning reel? My dad and I went through a whole bunch of those. Awesome drags but their anti-reverse mechanism broke all the time and John Martinas must have loved us for that. I'd still own one however.
