Opened my comcast bill the other day and just about [censored]. I like the internet service but the cost of watching TV is killin us, and yet we are spoiled with the dvr box.
In the past every time comcast sneaks the price up, I go in and negotiate a better rate but that is getting old.
Suggestions? whatever you do, just get rid of comcast! got rid of cable entirely because of their bullspit practices.

I've had both direct and dish. I like dish better. Easier to maneuver around with the remote. I've never had them bug me about upgrades either.

Opened my DirecTV bill the other day and just about [censored].
In the past every time DirecTV sneaks the price up, SHE goes in and negotiates a better rate but that is getting old.
Suggestions? There fixed it for you. We are in the same boat with DirecTv. I'm about fed up. DirecTV just sent out a flier (warning) stating they are coming out with a bunch of new enhancements, and also a new pricing structure. i.e. get ready to bend over. They know FSN-FoxSportsNetwork is a requirement and play that card well. If it wasn't for the Mariner's, I would get an antenna.

call comcast and tell them you want a better deal. Or you are taking your internet to quest or verizon fios or direct they will match any deal you can get elsewhere. That is what I did. You need to do that everytime they are offering a deal. I

I would go with Dish, I have had them for over 4 years now and never had any of the problems that Aunty described. They have been excellent with tech support when needed and thier customer service has been great too.-TBJ

Its called capitalism. Not a "Free Market Economy". Looks like a Monopoly to me.

Its called capitalism. Not a "Free Market Economy". Looks like a Monopoly to me. For what Comcrap charges in WA for Phone, Interweb, & TV with 2 'premium channels', about $200/mo, The same thing from the same company costs less than $95/mo in San Diego, where there are two other competing cable companies.

Wow! Cheap SOB that I am, I'm wondering if having a land line phone is worth it anymore. We have a 3-cellphone plan at around $100. I'm interested only in basic or extended basic cable and internet service. Seems like Comcast has us by the short and curlies. We had dish for years and just got fed up with the crap. My friends give me their stories with Comcrap so I went with Direct a couple years ago. Direct has been good to me and I do get internet by using Clear (used to be Clearwire). It's a cell tower based system and works quite well. I don't have a land line. If you can do without the land line this set-up would be my suggestion. Fox Soccer Channel was a must and they offer it. As for Hockey Night in Canada....? I do miss it but paid the extra for NHL Center Ice and I can still get Cbut's feed Saturday nights.

We've had DirecTV (standard def) since 1999 with no problems. One other consideration if you have an RV is that it is easier to aim a portable sat dish at one Directv satellite (direction & elevation angle) instead of screwing around with a third "Skew" adjustment that Dish has to get two satellites. Just a thought.

I think I'm going to need a land line after all. I installed a security system at the new house, and it has an autodialer. Not hooked up so far, just the siren. If I want the system to call out when breached, it needs a phone line, and I think it has to be a land line.
Sg Salmo, in my opinion the siren is all you need. Sounds like your place is in the sticks. Unless you can expect a five minute response by the Police, whats the point, the crooks are long gone. Also check out the false alarm fees where you are at. You will have false alarms no matter how careful you are. Keep in mind that the alarm company is going to call your house and try and get a response with the code before calling the police, yet further delaying the police response. Lastly, the Police respond to so many false alarms no one is in a hurry to get there anyway and lot of those alarms end up in the que. But, in the end you have to go with what makes you most comfortable. I believe my house has been sold and I will be moving to a new one in Idaho. I plan on ditching the landline, no more alarm (as most of my stuff isn't worth worrying about and insurance replaces it anyway) and using the cell phone. Comrob raised my tv, internet, and phone rates by $50. I would can them now and be looking at the Dish or Direct If I wasn't anticipating moving so soon.

Comcast is not available in my area. I had Dish for about 12 years and when they would not negotiate I switched to Direct TV. It was and is cheaper and I like it better. Having a DVR has changed the way we watch TV. We are stuck with Qwest for a DSL line.
