My Springer is now 13 years old and has slowed down a LITTLE bit, but boy did my bank account take a beating when she was younger. $800 here, $500 there, all effn season long. Thankfully my vet took pity on me when I reached about the $1,500 threshold for the year, and cut me some slack.
But undoubtedly my next dog will be a Spaniel too, call me stupid. I just love the way they hunt.....I love the animation and they don't just hunt the cover, they burn it down!
Sidenote....for the first time ever I clipped a nail too low today, and it took hours for it to stop bleeding. Vet told me to use corn starch, which appeared to have some coagulation qualities.
Ike
I grew up with 'em. The last one lasted from when I was 12 till I was 25. He was the one I used to take on cross country dayhikes with a backpack lunch, a few shells of birdshot and a cruddy old Mossberg 500.
That was a hard put down.
Even up til a week before he went, if he heard the sound of a gun cocking, he'd go totally apeshit. He was blind and nearly deaf, but he'd start flushing right there and run into stuff.
Springers are the only dogs I've seen figure out doorknobs, ladders, and gate latches. It's like they pretend to be enthusiastically stupid almost.
