i'm looking at changing from my '95 vintage Sawyers to current Cataract shafts with Razors.

Any thoughts? I like the Sawyers but want something more balanced with more bite.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I'll see your +1 and raise you another +1. Floating blades hands down. Ran razors, liked my floaters better. They seemed to tire me out less and were less likely to wedge.

I have an extra set of counterbalanced Cataracts that I might be looking to sell if interested? Hardly used.

I recently purchased a used 16ft Willie guide model with 9ft cataract oars with the floating blades. This combo is easily the best I have ever used. After using the wood sawyers for years and always being satisfied with the performance. I was not expecting there to be this much of a difference.

I have a question for you guys in the know when talking 9' oars do you mean shaft length or overall length? Reason I ask is I have a pair of black 7' shafted cataract oars that with blades and handles come in at 9'3" overall and was wondering if these are drift boat worthy? Or do you use ~11' oars. Thanks for any help C

+ several more. Not sure why anyone would use razors or magnums after rowing down a rocky drop with the floaters.

Fish on...

Floating blades will save you at some point. If you are looking at buying new oars, you are doing yourself a disservice by not considering the Sawyer composites with Dynelite blades. I can't imagine you'd like the Cataracts better but oar choice is a matter of feel for most.

FYI, if you get nine foot oars and floating blades they balance perfectly on a 16' Willie guide model.

Funny...I did that very thing at Sportco yesterday. One of my original Sawyer Lites finally took a dump.

willie boats has 25% off oars right now, i bought a spare 9' cataract to match my other two, and it ended up only costing 31 bucks for shipping,

9' cataract with magnum blade, 195 minus 25%= 146.25 +31.27 for shipping

= 177.52 at my door in 4 days.

might even be the same 31 to ship two...

$379.94 with magnum blades.

I'm bummed now as I thought the magnums were floaters. Apparently, they're not and I would like floaters. All I saw there at the store were magnum blades. I guess I'll give em' a test run next week and form an opinion.

Anyone chime in where I can get floating blades?
