Don't close them:

Group Pitches Idea Of 24 Hour Bars In Seattle
Posted: 8:07 am PDT April 28, 2010

SEATTLE -- Though fights often occur after bars close and patrons hit Seattle streets, a group is pitching the idea of 24-hour bars.

The Seattle Nightlife and Music Association said 24-hour bars could be the answer to the violence.

"Whenever you get tons of people together, there's potential issues. If you get rid of that push out, you get rid of those problems," the association's David Meinert said.

Meinert is meeting with city officials this week to talk about studying other cities that allow bars to close when they want.

Meinert said the idea is part of a larger plan for nightclubs that would include strict noise regulations.

Seems like they could stay open and just turn off the tap, serve coffee and water for a couple of hours. Let the fun wind down rather than push it out the door.

A lot of people would leave, but it would probably stagger the exodus and clean up the street issues a bit.

They do. In order to have a liquor license in WA... you have to have a certain percentage of food sales as well.

I was a bar manager for Red Robin for 3 years. I know that. Generally they shoo everybody out at 1:30-2:00am. Food service usually stops at 1:30 when last call is given.

Full food service for an hour after closing alcohol sales keeps folks there instead of heading to Denny's, where I also worked for 2 years. That's when I started carrying a gun, and it saved my life one evening. (Long story)

The biggest issue is that we are a "liquor control" state. I am sick and tired of being smothered by the warm embrace of my government. That, and people are assholes.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

No matter what you legislate, or how...it will always come back to this. You can't legislate manners, or the way that drunk people react to their lack.

Fish on...

Seems to me I remember Alaska closing down the bars for an hour each night. .....from 5AM to 6AM as I recall (could be wrong...it's been awhile.....quit drinking in '87). Spent many a long night doing ....just doing. smile

I once went to one bar that was open 24 hrs. Stopped serving alcohol at 2AM.

I wondered why everyone had so much damn energy at 2:30AM...

...and why their eyes were all dilated...

...and hey, that's not a cigarette behind that guy's ear, it's a small plastic straw...

"Who's idea was it to come here?!?"

There are already bars like this downtown that stay open after 2, but most of the people that hang out at a bar after they quit selling alcohol are coked out of their faces.
