Look out elk!

My son decided after this last season he wanted to put the rifle away and pick up a bow. Plenty of success with his 270, but he wanted another challenge.

It has become a passion for both of us. 3D shooting has become something that we travel just about every weekend to do. During the week, we practice in the back yard.

I would say that the daily practice is paying off. Not bad for 15.

Nice shootin +++
Have to ask about that target. How thick is it ? looks very thin. how is it for removing arrows. Haven't shot the bow for 7 or 8 years now but want to get back at it. I was into breaking bones when I last hunted with a bow. Heavy aluminum, 125 or 140 grn heads, Fingers and 80+ lbs of draw but only about 265 FPS if I remember correct. I don't think they build a long enough compound now that I could shoot fingers. To much pinch. Any target inside of 40 yards usually were a real pain to get my sticks out of.

Right ON! Rough thing to get a kid started in however... I became addicted at an early age, and spent a loooooooot of time flingin' sticks. Had a 20yd range in the house, a 100yd range out back, with tables arrow tubes, and graveled pads every 10 yards. in high school, my target bows cost more than my carrofl But it was fun...lots o' fun.

Oh...and tell him to stop shooting all arrows at the same spot. Robinhoods and trenched arrows get spendy FAST! smile

Twitch, please notice the shirt. The kid doubts a stupid duck could hit the target. rofl

Definetly need to start shooting at diferent spots on the target. Arrow's are not cheap.

Achewtr, the target is about 1 ft deep. Arrow's only penetrate 3" to 5", but with time and enough hits in the same area, they will pass thru. You can pull your arrow's out with 2 fingers. Field tips only, a broadhead would destroy the target in little time.

Kenny is shooting a Bowtech Soldier. It is supposed to be a starter bow that a young kid can grow in to. He allready has it maxed out to 65 lbs of draw wt. and it's shooting arrow's at 300 ft per second. The technology in today's new bow's is amazing.

That's pretty cool! I know exactly what you and your boy are going thru.

I just bought my first bow about a month ago. Talk about addicting!!! Better then crack. Hell it's even cut into my beer consumption as I spend most evenings now at the range.

I should be ling fishing with my buds but noooooooooooooo I'm driving 6 hours to see if I can't stick a gobbler this weekend instead. Or at least fling arrows all around the countryside.

Last night I bought a 1/2 dozen of what look to be the same arrows your shooting so I could put gobbler broadheads on them. First set downrange I hear the "tink" of one arrow hitting another. Luckily I only broke the nock and was able to save the arrow but I will now start shooting each arrow at a different spot!

I haven't done the group shoot thing yet and I'm afread to as I'll probably get addicted to that too and end up never catching another ling!

I like to group my arrows into 3 shot groups instead of shooting at different targets, but it gets spendy i have about 5 of those Robin Hood arrow sets in my basement. I thought it was cool at first but then I started to look at the costs, each arrow is ten bucks times ten, and thats a lot of wasted money.

Try a 3D shoot somehwere BroodBuster. Talk about addicting, we have travled 3 hours to go to a different range and shoot 3D targets.

Fishing has been put aside for the last few months because of the bow bug. Never thought I would do anything like that in my life.

Top 10 from the JOAD World Team Trials in Salt Lake would have gone to Jakarta... I didn't make top 10 there.

Oklahoma...yeah, not very interesting. But having dinner with Ted Nugent on the second night there WAS interesting...to say the least...

Syko, you shot Redding yet? Better get that kid of yours set up with a Bigfoot target... thumbs

The place at the bottom of my hill has a 3d shoot in July. Once the course is set up the leave it up till fall for members. I'll be a member shortly!

Also hear that one of the world class 3d courses is located in Derrington which just so happens to be one of my favorite places in the world. $1.00 gets you access for the whole day. That's on my for sure list. Even have the timing figured out wink

Every one I meet at the range is like way too into the 3d shoots. It's all they talk about and it sounds like it inevitably turns into a party. They sort of remind me of the steelhead crowd they just don't smoke as much!

I went with a Martin Bengal. Sweet and silent! Probably not the fastest bow in the world but is smoooth and super silent. Amazing what you can get in a $400.00 bow!!! I had worked my way up to 65#'s but my shoulders said screw that so I've backed it down to 58# which is where I think I'll leave it.

Put up a reminder when the Derrington shoot is. May have to go up there and check it out. Going to Camas this weekend and there is a 3D shoot here in Mulletville next weekend.

Twitch, we will be in Redding next year.
