Am I the only one that thought it was a Jacob's ladder rip-off?

Well, last night was an hour-and-a-half of lost sleep I'll spend the rest of this week trying to recover.

I'm a lost addict, but this final season has had me thinking they didn't have this as cleverly thought out as they were making it to be. The finale confirmed it.

I think you are right Salmo. The ending was so ambiguous that it is open to about every variation possible. It was also an easy out, did not have to answer many of the questions.

I think they borrowed a lot from Jacob's ladder and Sixth sense. Purgatory, accepting death, blah, blah, blah.

I thought it was pretty frustrating to say the least.

But it was a good run; kept me hooked.

Here's what I think:

The whole story....everything.....LOST is about Jack Shepard. From the initial plane crash to life on the island and everything they went through, the sideways world, the heart of the island, everything. The story was about Jack's journey from a man of science (which is why early on in the show we see a lot more of the sci-fi stuff) to a man of faith (ie his "letting go"). We see all of the spiritual stuff this last season because that is a reflection of Jack's heart/attitude.

The reason we don't get answers to every little detail is because the whole point of the show is to tell Jack Shepard's story. We did get all the answers from this standpoint IMO.

All that took place throughout the course of the show was necessary in order for Jack to get to a place where he was ready to "go on".

I agree the island was real and the sideways world was some sort of pergatory, Jack died in the bamboo field after saving the island.

Everybody dies, the show was just a picture of a higher power working many things together to change Jack's heart to have faith and be ready.

Nicely done CP! I agree with what you just stated. However, I was think more along the lines that the entire story took place as jack lay dying in the bamboo field right after the plane crash. I'm thinking they all died in the crash and were in various stages of acceptence/denial.......Hence the Jacob's Ladder dying on the operating table comparison.

I am also think that the Island was some kind of purgatory for people that died on or near the island. people like Richard Alpert have been dead and dwelling the island for over a 100 years. still not ready to let go/understand but does not age. Desmond died there in the 70's. People like the French gal still cannot let go therfore were not in the church.

Jacob and the man in black were "guides" for people struggling with their issues in life in order to let go. Once they see the light they are set free sort of thing. hence, 6th sense comparison.

CP, I think you are spot on with your science faith progression of Jack.

what to watch now.............I can't think of another show that I liked more. except maybe perfect strangers.......

I choose to think that the ones in the plane flying overhead when Jack died went on to live happy lives.

The whole show started with Jack opening his eyes after the crash and basically ended with him closing his eyes in the field with Vincent the dog.

That stinking dog.....seeing him laying there with Jack got my allergies all worked up.

that damn dog Vincent was always causing problems........punk bitch, they should have BBQed his ass first season.
