Every year, it seems I get pretty darned pumped up for the first "real" fishing event... I'm not talking about trout fishing in the local lake, or going out blackmouth fishing for the shakedown trip... but "the" trip.

Often, my first trip is to Neah Bay or Sekiu around July 1st. This year, my opener will be to Neah Bay on June 12th.

Anyone else get themselves all psyched up before their "opener?" Who else is heading to the coast on the 12th?

I am headed to Westport 6/11-13. It will be my first trip to Westport and can't wait for next weekend. I gave up going to Sekiu this weekend so I could get the boat ready for the opener at Westport.

I get pretty fired up for the Columbia to open for summer chinook every year. I've take that day of work more tan a few times, but not this year. I'll be waiting for the first open weekend instead mad

I won't be able to make it on the opener, but I was in Westport last weekend and talked to a couple commercial boat captains at the docks. So far, they said that this season is off to the best start in years. Middle of July will be my opening day.

Judging by the orders I have been recieving lately. JDarr isn't the only one excited for the Summer Chinook opener..... My work schedule won't allow me there for the opener but hopefully soon after!

I think my first winter steel trip always gets me going the most. Though that first morning chasing kings in the salt is a close second.
