I was just offering up an opinion on how to TRY to prevent unwanton harm to the "new pups".

Between my dad and I we've had 5 labs that have all lived into their early teens. All were "fishing dogs" through-out most of their lives. Only one got "salmon poisioning" (dad's 1st lab...she lived), and after that experience we decided to be very vigil about knowing the whereabouts of the hounds, and to TRY to control what they're exposed to.

Thinking of renaming Tye, psyco moose. He hit 26 lbs today. You can watch him grow. Alternates between coma and a whirling dervish on crack. He "helped " me rebuild my deck today. Swiped my bag of nails several times, drug off a hammer, gnawed the end of a board, and got in the oil based paint. Overall a great day.

Dave, you need to just hire a carpenter so you can play with your dog. I know a guy . .. . . .

I know what you mean about watching them grow, Dave. I see him most of the day and I can STILL tell the difference every couple of days. Boris has gotten some "boat time" each of the last 3 nights, including 2 trips in the db. He is absolutely awesome and is starting to figure it all out.

Feeling like a proud papa today. Boris did his first official voluntary swimming last night to retrieve a stick. He's been bounding around the water for weeks with no signs of fear but had always stopped about chest deep. Last night, I waded out and he followed me, suddenly realizing he was swimming. 2 more times of that and he was good to go on his own, retrieving on the swim a few times. I swear they have a look of pride after doing something like that.

He has also been sleeping in his crate with the door open for the last couple of weeks. If he wakes up before me and wanders out of it, I tell him to go back in and he'll stay there until I tell him it is time to go.

Over that last 2 months, he has probably racked up more boat time than most PP members.

Absolutely loving this dog.

right on! kenna is still a bit scared to "swim", but we were on the coast last weekend and she was romping in the water quite a bit. she hasn't been in the boat yet (not sure why), but she's about to. we're planning to chase a bird or two on labor day weekend maybe for the grouse opener. everything else is going good. she's at the vet tonight (got spayed today) and we miss her deeply. but, she'll be home tomorrow. we need to plan a reunion!

This morning, at the vet, Boris weighed in at 58 pounds. He left weighing less. Yup, CHOP! I asked the vet if they got them both and she said, "yes". So far, he is doing well with it. They say 10 to 14 days of no strenuous play and no time in the water.

The reunion is a great idea. A late October weekend of salmon fishing somewhere?

A reunion sounds good, how about a hunting trip at one of the release sites?

Tye is 54 pounds. Has swum a bit but still nervous about getting in over his head. It would be cool to have a reunuon.

Tye loses his balls in three weks. I'm glad as he is currently humping animate and inamate items freely

Last night he swallowd whole a rib steak bone. No ill effects yet.

Mack is close to 60#. Doing very well. He is known as the destroyer in the house. Has almost finished off the TV remote control, it is now taped together..

Getting his nuts cut this Friday. I feel sorry for some of the pillows in this house, man he really knows how to go to town......

I think he may have the potential to be a doggie porn star....just pull the camera out and there's wood...we have thought about changing his name to Woody...

I would definitely be interested in joining in on the reunion. Please let me know what you guys decide.

Kalen

Sounds like a good oppertunity for a Brewster fest. Uplands in the morning. Football and steelhead in the afternoon's. I'll be there anyways for the upland opener if anyone's interested.

The thought of taking 8 or 10 Labs to a river for a fishing trip kinda makes me shake my head. Can you say clusterfuc!!! Lets do it. Someone is going to show up not knowing whats going on and be pissed when they hook a fish and have a herd of labs trying to grab it.

I'm glad to see Tye is "normal". He simply can't be without something in his mouth and he prefers to chew it while leaning against my leg.

He retrieves great but is not so great about dropping it. He will for a reward. He loves his Frisbee but has not made a catch yet. He is trying and should succeed any day soon. He comes when called unless interested in another dog, a piss ant or whatever else has caught his fancy. He sits, shakes hands, walks on a loose leash and goes to his rug on command –if there is a treat involved.

He still begins his day in bed with my wife. And he still lays on her lap for a while each evening. He is smart, loving; pig headed and will eat almost anything. I guess I just said he is a lab.

BTW we are feeding him about five cups a day and he seems ravenous all the time. How much are his brothers and sister getting a day?

Only four cups a day, plus more treats than I'd like to admit. Just weighed him last night on the digital floor scale and he's right at 56lbs.

Just over 4 cups a day for Boris as well as treats. The back of the dog food bag has a general range. I've heard some people say that NOT feeding them a lot is better because it will slow their growth down and make them less likely to have joint problems. I don't know if that is true or not?

Sounds like they are all about on the same pace. Boris' face looks A LOT like Mack's. And, unfortunately, I recognize the pink "lipstick" he is sporting. Getting the nuts chopped off yesterday didn't stop it from making an appearance this morning.

Hank, no fake balls for Boris although ever since I heard of those things, I've wanted to get a Chihuahua and then get him the largest replacements they make!

Greg, the Brewster/Methow area would be a great place to take them! Anyone have any good ideas for campgrounds where this might work out well?

This is Tye today. He is "only" about 55 pounds. He is currently chewing up a garlic bulb. Later today we are headed to the river for a dog walk/fishing trip. I'm sure it will be mostly dog walk.
