Just a warning, Dave:

Dogs develop hemolytic anemia if they eat enough onions. I don't think that it matters too much whether the onions are cooked or not. The quantity of onions required is high enough that dogs can generally tolerate small doses of onions without any problem and moderate amounts of onion without clinically apparent disease, even though there may be measurable changes on lab test results. Cats are probably a little more sensitive to onion toxicity than dogs are. I can't find an exact quantity of onions required to cause toxicity problems in dogs, but there are several case reports of onion toxicity and they involve whole onions or sizable portions of chopped onions (like a cup or more). I think that feeding dogs meat that has been cooked with onions is pretty safe but you might want to avoid giving them the broth from around something like pot-roast if there were a lot of onions used in the cooking, just to be safe.

Large amounts of garlic will produce similar toxicity problems in both dogs and cats. I think that the amount required is not likely to be eaten by a cat but there are probably a few dogs who would lap up a container of spilled garlic.

AP: Thanks for the good info. Tye has not actually ingested any garlic or onion, He has chewed up a garlic bulb, and from now on I won't allow that.

HuntNCoug

I didn't see you post till I was out the door. I went to the Snoqualmie and it was out. BUT Tye did several swims of 20 plus yards. I am so happy with that dog.

This afternoon I am going to go to Ben Howard to harass Rico and KK when they take out. Let me know if you wanna come. More a dog walk than a fish trip.

I thought that was you and Tye at BH today. I wish I would have read this before I took my boat out, I was running late picking up some friends at Thunderbird or I would have pulled the boat over.

That’s as beautiful a coat as I’ve ever seen on a dog. Whatever you’re feeding him seems to be working great.

Radar looks just like Bear but Kenna is much more stout and looks just like Mom. Radar is lanky now but when he fills in he is gona be a big bruser like his pa. My money is on Mack for being the Stud of the Pack. Just a hunch but I think Todds going to be bumed he had to pass on that one.

Looks like all the Blue/Micky pups have awesome coats. I sure hope they keep them into adulthood. Tye can be filthy amd once he dries he looks great again., which is a good thing because he does NOT like showers and he's getting too big to manhandle.

Bear just caught the swimming bug, and now when we go bank fish a river, he leads the way...

All it took for him to get cozy with the swimming thing, was for me to wade out to my chest while holding him by the scruff of his neck and let him figure out how the mechanics of it worked... Finally I just let go and let him swim back to shore..
