So I'm headed up to Seward AK at the end of this month to do some Pink Salmon fishing from the shore where there are a lot of Pinks who school up by the culverts. The usual method for catching them is to use a weighted treble hook and snag them (yes it is legal in Seward), but I'd rather have them actually hit my lure. I love using Kwikfish and Flatfish, but I don't know if the pinks will hit them, even while using the smaller sizes. Has anybody used them, and if so, sizes, colors and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The hands-down BEST lure for pink salmon, IMO... is a 1/4 oz. pink or white jig head with a 2" curly-tail pink rubber grub on it. Use your light spinning tackle and cast this out to the school. Let it sink for a couple of counts, then start SLOWLY twitch-retrieving it back to you. Don't lift or drop your rod more that a foot and you'll be catching more pinks that you'll know what to do with.

Pink vibrax or mepps will also do the trick.

Both methods mentioned will work.

I like jigs and pink curl tail worms.

If you see a school swimming by, cast so the jig will land just in front of the school.

Small buzz bombs, or other minnow type lead jigs also work well.

Be sure to cut the fill arch and bleed pinks immediately. The sooner your can get them on ice the better for eating quality.

If you can't ice them soon, do C&R and have fun playing them, pinch the barbs down for easy release.

Keep a couple for the barbie towards the end of your fishing day. Pinks turn to mush if you don't handle them correctly which is why they have a poor reputation as table fare.

To answer the original question...
YES pinks most assured do like KwikFish. They absolutely hammer them in the river.

Your intended application is not the best for them.

Better fished from an anchored boat at the top of a travel lane or backtrolled thru similar water. Doubles, triples and four-ples are the norm when backtrolling plugs over pinks.

Yep, I have had the same experience with Pinks & quickies. Normally its when I am fishing for Coho on the Sky/Snoho and I can't keep the darn pinks off of my hooks.

It would more difficult to find something a pink wouldn't hit.
