Well frankie... you could start with the proper spelling of the word "THEIR."
"There" would be proper if you said," Look, the village idiot is over there."
"THEIR" is the possessive... as in "THEIR idiot."
So... the proper way to write that sentence would be, "Somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing their idiot."

I believe that the use of the word "their" in the original sentence is acceptable, but you do not. A. They're called pronouns, not possessives. B. A committee and a village are both singular nouns. Therefore the pronouns replacing them need to be singular. C. You can believe whatever you want, but you're wrong.
