So my neighbor's friend stopped by his house last night say's he saw a Large cougar (150 lbs) standing in the road between our house's less than a hundred yards from my barn yesterday morning.
Since we have two sheep, rabbit's,And of course the two dog's, dog's are in outdoor kennel's during the day,the sheep are put in a barn at night my question is this cougar a threat the barn is not very secure. I know little abought the habit's of cougar's I figured someone here might have some insight. lot's of open space around so i figure we are in his territory. Thank's in advance.

Toms have pretty large territories but still enough to give you pause when you see one that close. If everything is locked up I doubt you will have any problems though. Cats are always around if you see them or not. Probably been there for a lot more time than you know and hasn't caused any problems yet. And yes........I know it is tough to say wait until something happens but with the precautions you are already taking I doubt you will have any issues. Never heard of one breaking down a barn door to get at any livestock. Might even get a cool mount if you happen to get lucky. grin

Have not had the sheep very long and they are going to the 4H auction next week but I would gladly sacrifice a rabbit or two if it would help bag a cougar.

They usually head for the hills as soon as hunting season starts. We used to have cats and bears wandering into our back yard around this time of the year. They'd always split as soon as the dogs caught wind of 'em and went completely apeschit.

As soon as modern firearm opened, we never saw hide nor hair of anything again until the next year.

As long as your sheep are locked up, you're kosher.
