Wow! It's nice to see some good news. That was certainly an impressive effort.

I've stood on that bridge and looked down several times, just knowing that the fishing down there would be outstanding. I've done some stupid things to get into good fishing prospects, but that's one that will be left to my imagination. Glad to see they got her out alright.

Wow, that's some incredible chopper driving! That canyon does a venturi effect on the winds in there. What's unclear is why the Navy chopper took that chance since it looked like the DNR firecrew had arrived and had everything set up to take the victim up the canyon wall. Maybe a little Navy grandstanding to show how good they are? Naw!

FF02,

Naw, the fishing down there isn't worth the effort to get to it according to a couple wall monkeys I talked to who've done it or swam it in drysuits.

That's good to know, Salmo, 'cause I certainly wasn't going to figure that one out for myself in this lifetime. At least I can let that curiosity die and move on.

Probably are Aunty, but a pitching deck landing doesn't have canyon walls on two sides like that either. Pretty close for gov't. work! I've flown with a few chopper pilots including a Vietnam vet who flies like a jock, but they have hard and fast rules about bridges and powerlines.

"Perhaps chopper pilots that have to land those things on a small pitching deck in high winds are THAT good? "

You are correct Marsha, they are that good. The chopper drivers did some incredible flying to get stuff on to our little boat in the rolling South China Sea.

good practice. might come in handy someday. They have to log hours on the pilots and copters anyway.

OK, OK, not trying to be a jerk. Just wondered why the chopper did something that appeared unnecessary under the circumstance. I'm more than glad that the pilots are that good and that the girl is OK.

I've stood on that bridge when the wind is howling thru there, and it was no steady breeze either. That was some seriously good flying.
