What the heck.....Haven't hunted since 1969, so thinking of selling my rifle.

Bought this while I was going to college in So. Dakota, 1964. Use to hunt whitetail, mule deer, antelope, and wild turkey.

Serial number 174157, shows that it was manufactured in 1951. While it is not new, it sure hasn't been abused.

Not interested in trading anything for it, only into fishing now.....and have "way to much of that equipment".

Tried to look on the net for some kind of pricing but ???????

If interested, or have questions email Bosborn1@comcast.net Put 270 in subject line and I'll try to answer all questions.

Drifter,

I have the same rifle. Lots of history with it as it was passed down to me from my father. I will be interested in what you get out of it. I would imagine it being worth somewhere in the $2,ooo range , wouldn't you?

You can get an idea on the value on Gunsamerica.com. I just glanced and a seen a used one for $850 and one in 98% condition for $1295. The calibur has more to do with the value on the real spendy ones. The .270 is very nice, although very common in pre 64's. Bill

My goodness, I want to sell my guns to the one that says it is worth 2K. DJ's in bothell (who sells a great deal of pre-64's) would sell it for around $500.00 To get 1200, it would almost have to be new in the box. A pre 64 in 220 swift may bring that much, but not a common caliber like 270,or 30/06. Scout out some gun shows and get a real time price. A dealer would probably offer you around $350. I am not trying to offend anyone. Just the hard facts of selling a gun. Good luck.

Grrrrrrrrrr.....wish there was a way to add a picture. There probably is but wish it was right on this page.....instead of all the graphics..........

I sure don't think mine is worth $2000 bucks but I'd take it if someone gave it to me.

It is a "flat shooter".......shot mule deer and turkey's while in S. Dakota......paced off 1 of the turkey I shot, full jacketed 110 grain, and it was just over 200 yds. but that was in 1965, not sure I can even see that far today.

If anyone wants a picture......I can email....but would be sooooooo nice just to have them here.

SORRY! I would never sell mine if I was only going to get $350.

Where does one go to find out the date of production from the serial #?

drifter, go to http://www.photobucket.com and upload your pictures to that site. Make sure they are sized down to about 400x600. Then you can "copy/paste the url here when you are writing up your post.

Its pretty easy once you do on or 2

Don't overlook the fact Winchester has ceased all Model 70 production-last fall-and closed the factory March 31, 2006. I have a friend who bought a brand new Model 70 in .270 a year ago, only a few shots through it and he is being offered double to triple what he paid. Perhaps collectors' sentiments will be driving up the prices of older ones too. Might just hang on to it for a while and see what the market will bear.

so Drifter how much for the gun? This has been a neat thread staying toward the top and all.

I have a heirloom rifle that I also must make a decision on one of these days.Model 1866 Winchester built in 1884/85 .33 cal.

tough choice
