Will someone please explain to me what the line is that is marked by buoy 13 in Grays Harbor. I know it is between the north and south jetty but what is the line that marks what is closed and what is open for salmon? Is it the east end of the north jetty to the east of the south jetty or is it farther east than that?

I have called both Montesano office and Olympia and have yet been sent to anyone that knows in 2 years. Didn't matter much but this year I plan to fish for salmon out there so knowing might be a good thing.

The brochure (pg 106) reads: Bouy 13 Line: A line drawn true North-South through Buoy 13 near the entrance of Grays Harbor.

I'd suggest digging out a chart, plotting the line and noting the longitude for reference on your GPS.

Hmm, I have seen that but I can't see the buoy from the shore. I don't fish in a boat, not for lack of desire to, I don't have one and I don't know anyone that has one that will take me. I will have to find a good chart that shows it's true location and find true north to figure out where it is legal to fish salmon from shore. The plan is to fish the broken jetty for salmon in the gap. Now I just have to figure out if those little jetties in Westport are west or east of the line.

This link to the NOAA on-line charts for Grays Harbor should give you a start. Looks like buoy 13 is just W of the Westport Boat basin but well inside the jetties

That's what I needed, thank you. Looks like all the little jetties are legal for salmon when season opens.

I was looking up information for for zone 2-2 today since I was told that it was legal to fish for salmon on the south jetty. The guide says it is closed and the original poster here says it is open for season (the 16th?). My friend works out in Westport and told me it is fine until the regular season starts.

Am I reading the pamphlet wrong? I was kind of looking forward to doing some early fishing today.

I'll defer to those that fish the Grays Harbor area.

Check the definition for Grays Harbor Control Zone (which closed August 1) against the chart link in a previous post. Looks like 2-2 west of the Buoy 13 line is closed and 2-2 east of the line opens Sept. 16
