i'm looking to buy a new pair of boots. i think I want danner sierras, but i want to try them on. i went ot OE this morning, but their selection kind of sucks. the danner site lists jerry's surplus (out of biz)and a couple of feed stores, work wear places and such. any stores out there that's closer than cabela's?

You don't want danners. Check out Lowa, Kanetreks, Asolos, and or Mendls, your feet will thank you.

Check some of your local chainsaw shops, Whistle Workwear, and LEEDS (a law enforcement supply company on Aurora). My Danner Acadia's are still going strong after 16 years, but the finish sucks.

thanks for all the info. turns out that nobody really stocks the boots that i wanted, so i ordered them straight from danner. they're in portland, the boots should arrive by wed. free shipping, both ways if needed. same price as cabela's ('cept cabelas wanted $19 to ship them, though they were to ship directly from danner). i have had lowa's, and asolos before, and i did try the kenetreks. The kenetreks are the shizzle, but they're $400. the danner's i bought set me back $280, made in the usa (down the street in portland) and in 20 years, i can get them refurbished for around $90. they'll take a little breaking in, but i'm confident that i'll be happy. if I'm not, i'll let y'all know....

hey art, been out fishin?

Make sure you grease them heavily down where they crease above your toes. My first pair lasted 12 years, but when I sent them back to Danner that toe area was cracked. They said they could repair them, but they gave me 50% OFF a new pair. I love my danners.

I have been going through two pairs of Danner Super Rainforrests every year and it seems like the quality has been getting worse while the price has been going up. I have a couple pairs of REI boots that are more comfortable and more waterproof then the danners but the height of the rei boots is not enough for my needs

Depends on whether the are the USA made boots, or the overseas models.

huntncoug:

2 pairs of those monsters?? do you wear them for work, cameron? i got them a while ago, been wearing them walking the dog about 2 miles a day. they didn't come with a sole liner that i liked and I wear orthotics, so i had the toe box stretched to accomodate fat toes. no complaints so far. of course, we're only walking on flat roads and parks and such. they're pretty light and they're molding to my feet well. i like 'em. i'm thinking about sending kenna to dog school to get her on some birds, going to do an assessment next week with Pat Murphy. Any experience with him? I wanted to talk to you about the pheasant release thing, too. drop me a line when you get a chance--odd or even??

the boots i have are made in portland, i assume that the super rainforest ones are too, but not sure. they sure are pushing those pronghorns, though. i've seen commercials on the hunting channels for those....
