hey Guys,

I live in BC and I find your state's system of fish stocking interesting. If a lake is stocked in BC, they stock it with about 50,000 10" and no brood stock or triploids.
Most of our lakes dont need to be stocked every year because they regenerate their populations so well over the winter.
Any thoughts on the matter?

Hi!

Many of our lakes are what we call 'put and take' lakes. We plant catchable fish in them and anglers harvest them out. Some lakes we do plant fingerling in and allow the lake to grow them out. Not all of our waters can do this so, that is why we have such an intense stocking program (at least in southwest Washington where I am based). We offer broodstock and triploid (a trout with a third chromosome that makes it sterile and all energy goes to growing and none to reproduction) to give anglers a variety in the sizes of trout that can be harvested.

Hope that answers your question!

Thanks!

The training is going real good actually. We still have some steering issues but 'whoa' is certainly getting better! He is now 18 hands and a little over 2,200 lbs. He will make the perfect Roman warhorse!
