What exactly are these fish....as my name suggests, I am learning and am intrigued by much of this..........I just recently learned how the "triploid" process is performed and why it was begun.

The so-called "tiger trout" is a sterile brown trout x eastern brook cross. Although they are both members of the family Salmonidae, they are of different genera (Salmo and Salvelinus) and I would have though that the differences would have been too great to successfully cross them, but apparently not.

I had the pleasure (?) of fishing for these critters in a clear water lake one fine sunny spring day. Skunkerooo, despite dunking lots of flies in front of them.
Does anyone know how to fish for them?
I'm thinking they may have the shy nocturnal habits of a spooky Brown after my first and only experience.

Stacy said they're stocking them in some lakes down in her region. Send her an email.

We are putting them in some of our high lakes, right now they are in Forlorn Lakes. If you need more specific info you can email me at kelsyslk@dfw.wa.gov or call me at (360) 906-6706.

Stacey,

What's the problem with Forlorn lakes for Tiger Trout to be stocked?

Does Forlorn Lakes got spawning brook trout, or is there some other concern?

I remembered your comments on Tiger Trout used to control other species.

Bill

Our tigers are going in specifically to replace the brown trout, but in California they use tigers to control stunted populations of a variety of fish species.

In the right conditions these guys can get up to 30 lbs.

They are the most aggressive of the trout species.
