Did my first trip to the Lower Dean River Lodge this Sept. Unbelievable trip to say the least. Great fishing, everyone there with multiple hookups daily landing at least one. Crazy fish that take the fly like a freight train, testing the best tackle. Great food and first class guides and accommodations. Billy has a great place.
Sad to hear that after we left, the area flooded the worst since 1968. Dean, Bella Coola Valley community, and surounding areas were severely underwater from freak Sept. torrential rains. The Dean River Lodge Property was close to a total loss and they are scrambling to put the pieces back together before winter and next season. Keep your thoughts and prayers with them as they try to keep a great tradition alive.

The Bella Coola erea received 8 inches of rain in a 24 hour period which also affected the Houston to Smithers area bigtime! The Bulkley went from a 70 year low to a level I've never seen. When Morice Lake turns over that is a heck of alot of rain! Even the Bulkley above the Morice was a chocolate consistency! Made the fishin' tough to say the least.

I've never seen the Bulkley upstream of the Morice with water more than ankle deep; OK, maybe knee deep. Always thought it strange that the Morice takes on the name of the Bulkley when the Bulkley is just a little creek, the current flood notwithstanding.
