Headed out with the boys after some pretty minimal success on finding deer this year. With our weather they have not been moving at all. Since it poured last night we decided to switch areas and head up the Nooch drainage. There was a spot we had looked at before but usually passed on because there was a camp nearby. This year it looked too good. 10 steps in and 10 yards away was this guy.  14 " tall, 14" wide. This deer was bigger bodied than any blacktail I've taken. Lots of deer moving, so we'll head back out for Ryan's deer in a bit. Meat hanging.

It was an uphill drag, so there was a little bit of work involved.  Teeth were pretty shot, so it was an older deer. Lots of fat inside the deer and a nice layer of fat under the hide. Not as much as a Sitka BT, but close. I just wish I had a way to accurately weigh the beast. Getting him into the truck was a chore. Nothing tonight other than the beer I found at the store. .

Actually, it is my son's deer, so I'll pass on the congrats to him.
We have a joke that turns out to be true just about every year. Hunter says he doesn't want to go hunting because he is: tired, wants to sleep in, wants to play video games, etc. I remind him that whenever he does that (whines about heading out) and we end up going out, he almost always bags an animal.
He wanted to sleep in yesterday. He is glad he didn't.
