Hi all. Has anyone else seen the HUGE carp in lake Sammamish? I'm talking 20 - 40lbs and very aggressive. We saw at least 50 rooting around and splashing like crazy in the lilly pads between the boat launch and state park. Freaked us out at first... Have any of you seen these out there? Any idea what all the commotion is about? It seemed like they we hunting something...

I didn't know that there was any great population of carp in Lake Samm. When carp are in the shallows like that, they are courting and spawning. I understand that they are pretty easy to catch then, too.

One thing is for sure, they are definitely very approachable in this state. You can quietly walk within 5 feet of them, or at least wait for them. They have a courship path that they take and preferred grounds. //They seem to like shallow, sandy areas. The "grounds" that they stop at will usually be organic debris that has fallen from a tree directly above it. Get under the tree, and they should come to you. At least that has been my experience. I can't speak for how easy they are to catch, though.
