I have not hunted birds in a long while, but still dig it. Driving to work (north of Evt) in the AM, I have seen many large flocks of geese. Look to be Canadiens.

Question: At night I hear large flocks of geese migrating. I dont believe they are Canadiens because of the call--maybe Brandt's or Snow's --any of you experienced hunters have input or witnessed this at night..Its pretty cool

The Large flocks of geese you are hearing are most likely a sub species of Canadian geese, been hearing them every night too. They sound like lessers or cacklers which are a smaller subspecies of the greaters that your probably used to hearing around your local golf course. They have a high pitched squeak sound to them rather than a low guttural honk of a greater. I've also heard some specklebelly geese up there too, which have a high pitched squeak with a quick double note to it

A decent portion of them are likely snow geese. Lots of new birds moving into the area. There are so several subspecies of canadas in the areas as well as whitefronts/specklebelly.

Folks need to remember that this week in the north Sound area the season is closed for dark geese (snows only). While hunting snows this AM had 3 specks nearly land in the decoys (within 15 yards of me) and all I could do was point my finger at them and say "bang" and watch them back-pedal. Also saw a good number of swans for this early in the season (maybe 75 or so with a couple flocks setting on the snow geese decoys and gliding to within 15 feet of me). One of the swans (a tundra) had a neck band. Seems like the migration is on.

I love hearing those wings creak on swans.

Just hope I can get out for a few hunts this year. Last year was the first in over 25 that I haven't put out at least a few decoy spreads. This year isnt looking to good either. Anyone want to barrow a couple labs and a bunch of decoys?

Lots of little geese around. I was noticing them when we were fishing on Saturday. We also shot some on the opener.

I love the Whitefront/Speck geese. Those are basically the winged version of sirloin steaks.

Just got My speck back from the Taxidermists, we harvested several on opening day last year. My daughter would not allow me to clean this one particular bird so off to the the taxidermist it went. Turned out beautiful, a fully mature bird all barred up.
