My first post was in jest; this one not so much. My wife's aunt is Hanford "downwinder" and a thyroid cancer survivor. While looking up info on the radioactive releases that may have led to her health issues, I found this informative article. The recently discovered glow in the dark rabbit is but one of many contaminated critters that have been found roaming the reservation. Even the fish swimming in the Columbia have been involved. It's eye opening to see how carelessly nuclear waste was handled in the past, and mind boggling to discover that billions of pages detailing these poor practices have been hidden from public view. Doesn't look like there will be a shortage of kool-aid anytime soon.

More than three decades ago, my geology professor gave warning of a monumental crisis likely to occur when the plume of contamination under Hanford reaches the Columbia River. Basically the message was that anything in or on the Columbia below Hanford would be SOL. Hopefully, the clean up efforts over there are doing much more than just stimulating the economy.

The midwest population has a high incidence of thyroid issues due to atomic testing as the wind blew the fallout that direction.
