3/8 and 1/2 oz. work very nice......get down quickly......and if any current that weight helps.
I've also tried 1/4 oz., just seems a little too slow on the drop.....

You definitely spend more time twitching when you use the heavier heads. I run all 3/8 and 1/2 oz myself. I put on a 1/4 oz'er the other day for about 10 minutes, and it was much harder to fish.

sg:
The heavier jig sizes work good........now what I haven't tried is the braided line.....in 8, 10, or 15 pound weight......have got to believe that the diameter of those weights would allow a "fast drop" on 1/4 oz. maybe even 1/8 oz. but not if there was much current.
I know that 30# PP, has diameter of 8# mono and 20#pp has diameter of 6# mono.....and I think 20 feels like "cobweb line".......
Just looked 15# is equivent to 4# mono......wow.....might have give this a try........

Abu-Loomis:
I tried just a plain jig head, and the "pink worm"........didn't work on the day I used it.....
Like the looks of the jig in pic....double hook and flash-a-boo....barbless, and good to go.....

I really like Abu’s worm jig. No doubt it will work, but I am convinced it’s the action more than any other factor that draws strikes. Lots of Peninsula guys use three inch long jigs; most Alaska guys use 1 1/2 inch jigs. About all they have in common is that alluring jigging action. The jig in the photo started out as a 1/4 ounce marabou and flashabou jig that I tied befroe heading to the Alagnak. It was slammed so many times that all that was left was what you see, and it still caught fish. I

I guess I fit in on the 'Peninsula then. I'd like to think that profile acounts for something when it comes to twitching...then again, few things in fishing trump proper technique. DSCN1476 by mkalaneare, on Flickr

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Dave, Is that a snap swivel on your jig? Is this rigging detailed in your jig book, because I'm interested in learning more.

Dan, Please ask Tony. You already know too much. Coulda been. Whatever was on the rod I grabbed. I think it must have been the work of JDarr or Stam. Hell I dunno. Please select an answer from above.
