ZL. Lab hair is good for flies. But a 120lb dog skin would also last you a life time. JIm S. laugh

One would roll the dog over and "harvest" what hair was needed for near-term tying sessions, not skin the dog out and dry the hide.

While you birds are harvesting hair off your Labs,Fishinfella, being a true dyed in the wool fisherman, is keeping his nose to the water and working on new patterns and techniques.
Observation: Scuds tied with Canadian seals fur are superior to lab hair ties.
Latest new technique. Fishing Ron's superscud under a strike indicator like a chronomid. For some time I pondered how to present a Scud in a horizontal fashion hanging a foot off the weeds. Well Eureka, I got it. Use Partridge YK2B hooks for your tie. Then attach leader with a standard steelhead snell (use only a couple wraps on the snell).
Throw a couple steelhead "Riffle hitches" over the tie with the leader pointing up as you tighten the knots. Voila, you have a scud hanging from your leader horizontally. This is really gonna work guys.
Tip of the day: There is NO ice so far in any of the Basin Lakes. If this keeps up (the Chinook winds and warm spells) the lakes will easily be fishable with bloodworms or leeches in February.

Micro Brew, The weather does not look to inviting.
I maybe working tomarrow or sunday. I have been working on my own so I take the work when I can.
Feb is coming up so hopefully it does not freeze to much at the secret lake so we can hit it. Its gonna be a bloodworm chrono day.

I was wondering if either of you would notice that the weather tomorrow would be a high of 42 (if the stars align) and cold and rainy?

Looks like TM saw that report.

Now... TM... don't you be claiming any of my bloodworm patterns as your own..

WUSSIES....

The fish are already wet, so they don't care about rain. The water will be warmer than the outside air, so my feet will stay warm. I have a stupid looking hat that keeps my tender ears warm, plenty of fleece for my thin (?) body, and there may be a little antifreeze in the thermos.

Take care guys, I'll let you know what happens.

I don't worry about the star alignment, just the planets.....

How far up north are you going and are you going to go on Sunday. I might want to go also. I've never fished with an expert. I met you once. It was last April at that lake clean up. I was the medium sized fat guy with the Blackhawks hat on. Jim S. cool

WUSSIES????????
Would never claim a Zen fly as my own!!!
That would be like peeing on a fan. Or is it in a toaster? I was just stating what I think will be the food for trout .
I have seen Micro's silly hat, but if it keeps one warm who cares?
Micro' Jose got me these electronic foot warmers that will go inside the wadders to keep the lower paws warm! Cant wait to try them. I can just see myself now, 15 minutes later all we saw was some smoke and he was complaining about his feet were burning! laugh

yeah.. it's too cold and wet to go fishing on Sunday.

Think I'll go shooting instead. I can take getting wet (and cold) then.

MB... get your planets aligned. They're out of synch.

J. Swan - I have to go on Sat. as I have a funeral to go to on Sunday. Pass Lake is the destination. I remember the clean up. I do need to get back there to fish. Where's the next clean up?

I am NOT an expert... But seem to be able to hold my own. I was fotunate enough to actually catch nice fish where there was a witness. Doesn't usually happen that way.

TM - Haven't forgotten about the forks. Think I'll stay away for electric stuff.

ZL - Some day I'll tell you about shooting myself out of a canoe in 30 degree weather. Good luck with the shoot.

Have a good weekend all.

M.B. i think I remember you catching and releasing a very large 24 or 25" rainbow on the flats (between the ears) at the secret lake.
But that was so long ago in november I might be mistaken. But then again I do remember watching you catch fish at Nunally. eek

J. Swan - Planning on Pass Lake. Have to go on Saturday, have a funeral to go to on Sunday. I don't consider myself an EXPERT, but I am able to get my share...

Good luck to all of you this weekend in your endeavors.

ZL - I'll tell you about the time I shot myself out of a canoe in thirty degree weather - not fun!

I have to baby sit in Saturday, can't go. After reading all of these posts it sounded like you were. All I ever hear is TM flapping his lips. And with you fishing all over the place I took you for a expert. I think TM need a steady job because he has too much time on his hands. He ought to go out there and try a little river fishing. Jim S. :p
