We went over that study in a psychology class a few years ago. I thought it was pretty interesting but it all made complete sense. Rewards aren't going to motivate somebody to be smarter or more creative than they currently are.

the other understated theme is attracting good employees (quality talent). I worked for 2 years while attending WWU for the campus ISP.

The job was so much fun that I would have almost done it for free. Culture was ~40% of it, the other 60% was that we were doing really cool challenging work.

ADDs shine when allowed to work on what interest them. The impossible task is the one they could care less about.
