I'm a traditionalist. I prefer Salmo garderni instead of the new name. They can call it what they want, but it's still a trout. Salmon die after spawning... plain and simple.

If they want to rename it, better also consider browns and brookies as they go to saltwater over on the east coast.

Zen,I think that you better read a little farther into that book that you got your info out of. Steelhead die after spawning. Not all but some do. I think that the males do. BUT I've been wrong before. But only once. Jim S.

Trout only die after spawning if they get too worn out.

I knew a guy once who died after spawning. He picked the wrong guy's wife.

In Oregon Odell Lake hold the state record for Macks. I can't beleave the size of thouse fish, they all sport thr beer belly.
