Seattle Seahawks: Read a funny tweet Sunday night that Saints coach Sean Payton, after watching the Rams-Seahawks game, has decided to rest his starters for the wild-card matchup. Clearly a joke, but based on the NFC West tilt, which highlighted the differences between the Saints and either team, New Orleans has to feel really good about its chances to advance. My sense is that the Saints are happy they got matched up with the Seahawks because they are only strong in one area -- special teams.

The Seahawks are not talented on either side of the ball and do not measure up well with many playoff teams. They lack the power in their offensive line and cannot pass protect when the opponent knows it is a throwing situation. Seattle has marginal speed at wide receiver, which is a nice way of saying it has no playmakers. The Seahawks must call a perfect game on both sides of the ball in order to have a chance. Come playoff time, that is impossible to do.

Bush says he's ready to carry Saints ground game

Reggie Bush smiled at the idea of Seattle fans spewing as much vitriol his way as they could muster.

Bush was a villain back when he starred for dominant Southern California teams against the Washington Huskies. He expects that to be the case again when he returns to Seattle for the NFL playoffs, this time carrying more responsibility for the New Orleans Saints' running game than he has all season.

"I hope they say the dirtiest, nastiest things possible because that just gets me excited," Bush said. "When you know that you've beaten them without allowing them to distract you, that's the best feeling. That's the most rewarding feeling when you know you can beat a whole stadium."

Bring it on. Mock the Seahawks. Call them the worst playoff team ever. Whine and sob about the injustice of it all, how your imagined sense of fairness has been destroyed by a 7-9 team soiling the NFL playoffs with its blue stink. Point out all the statistics your little minds can hold before exploding from information overload -- point differential, DVOA, average yards per rush, Matt Hasselbeck's QB rating, Pete Carroll's ratio of funny-to-weird tweets, whatever.

Heck, make fun of the uniforms if you want.

Guess what? We don't care. The stadium will be sold out for Saturday's game against the Saints, with Seahawks fans going crazy waving their lime green towels. Let me put it another way: We laugh at your criticism. Consider that for the better part of three decades, our professional sports teams have choked, gagged, disappointed, crushed our hearts, underperformed, stunk, been screwed by the refs and then by a no-good slickster from Oklahoma who stole our beloved basketball franchise. So, no, your indignation does not bother us; the way we look at is that we're four wins away from a Super Bowl celebration.

After careful consideration and much soul-searching I have decided to rescind my bet.

"Why?" you ask.

Well, I'll tell ya Chuck. Not in my wildest dreams do I think the Fawks will win this one. The only thing they have going for them is home field advantage and they haven't been exactly 'lights out' there this year.

Position players are better on Nawlins across the board. Fawks receivers are slow; the O line is shaky at best; the DBs are sucky (and that's giving them a lot); Hasselsux is having possibly his worst season in the pros; the Fawks don't have a prayer, the Aint's are gonna mop the floor with them, IMHO.

"So why don't you bet and reap the bounty of the PNW? Get your box of apples or whatever and gloat about it?" you ask.

Well, here's my reasoning. Last year the Faints had all of the emotion going for them. They had never won, or even been close to a SB before. They had that whole "Katrina victims" B.S. hanging all over them. Fine and dandy. They had their day in the sun and it's time to move on.

I don't like the Fawks much...maybe you've been able to figure that out through my occasional rants. But here's the deal. Whatever my personal feelings are about them, they are a west coast team and that's where my heart lies. West Coast all the way baby!

So, putting my personal feelings about the Fawks aside, I HOPE they win this one tomorrow and I can't bet against that...although I do reserve the right to gloat about it when they lose.
