Can anyone recommend a good glove for rowing/fishing that does not absorb water like a sponge and is tough enough to handle gritty anchor line?

I was out in the drift boat during the last snow storm. My hands were cold so I put on my fleece fingerless gloves that I normally wear. One rise of the anchor ruined that. They were soaked with cold river water. Wringing them out helped but they are less than ideal. Anything better out there?

I use a good pair of tuff wool fingerless gloves. They still soke up water but at lease they stay warm.

I've been using the new Simms Windstopper Convertbles and love them thus far. They stay warm when wet, wring out and dry pretty quickly since they dont absorb much water.
I havent rowed with them yet but am not too woried about that. If you have cold hands while rowing, you aint rowing hard enough! grin

Wool fingerless thinsulate gloves. Wring out when wet, continue fishing/rowing. Never had cold hands.

I generally don't use mitts when fishing or rowing, but I have to admit fingerless Glacier Kenai gloves are nice to have around when things get downright nasty. Soft, light, fast-drying fleece on the back side with neoprene palms where you need it. Cheap too. smile

i have yet to find of pair of gloves that i feel conferrable enough rowing down a river in, knowing i will not slip at some given point. and for that i row with bare hands still. not worth it to miss an oar stroke.
that said usually especially in winter my front seaters are bundled to the 9 and i am usually wearing some good under armor and a light weight jacket. a hat is almost too much at points in the day.

I don't usually throw on gloves until the temp drops below 20 degrees. When it does, I have a pair of NRS rowing gloves.

I thought that gloves while rowing were for girlie boys until I floated with a respected, efficient , nice, well known, un named guide and saw him use them to keep his hands from being chewed up from grit in the anchor rope. He used a leather full finger glove.

The gloves I found would either soak up water or slide around. When I was prepping for this years trip on the rogue I found these at REI and am very happy. I will buy them again. They are warm enough, handle water, and fit well enough to row without actually noticing them. Your mileage may vary but they are a good product.

Like Sky Guy, I have a set of Simms Windstopper gloves, only mine are fingerless and a number of years old. Everything S.G. said, except mine have a piece of leather on the palm and I have rowed a lot with them on as well as beating them up on rocks and everything else and they still are good.

For guys who need gloves while rowing try a pair of riding gloves by SSG! My wife uses these gloves in all weather for riding english hunter/jumper. These gloves have way more grip than any fishing glove I have personally seen and I've had them all. They are all full fingered as far as I know, but they grip is excellent, they are warm, and they have a tight fit. SSG is also the maker of top of the line driving gloves. Look them up, buy a pair and try them out, you won't regret it.
