Just curious about how many of you are strictly fly fishing for trout for example, or if you dabble in other types of fishing as well. Here's an example:
In the last year, here are the types of fish i've hooked and the various methods used:
Locations: Rivers and streams, ponds, lakes (lowland, and alpine), puget sound, gulf of mexico
Types of fishing: Trolling, fly fishing (dry, wet, nymph), still fishing, various baits, jigs, plugs, spoons, spinners Fly fishing for steelhead and salmon in rivers Fly fishing for chum in the salt Bobber and jig for salmon/steelhead Drift fishing for salmon/steelhead Spoons/spinners for salmon steelhead I'll stop there.
Types of fish: (? means I don't recall for sure if I caught one this year, but I usually do) Trout/char (rainbow, cutthroat, brown?, brookie, dolly/bull) Salmon/Steelhead (Summer and Winter steelies, silvers, kings, pinks, chum) Spiny Rays (sm/lm bass, blue gill, perch, crappie?) Whitefish Catfish? Dogfish (not you andy) Rat fish greenling bull head / sculpin flounder / sole Ling Cod? Red fish Drum Speckeled Trout Alligator Gar?
My all time favorites - wading small rivers with my fly rod or spinning rod looking for eager trout. Next would be fishing (fly, hardware, jigs) for summer steelies. And finally this last year I had a blast catching so many salmon out of local rivers on my spinning and fly gear.
How about the rest of you? (not looking for numbers of fish or bragging, just interested in how diverse or not your fishing is...)

90% fly fish. Also hit kokanee with pop gear / wedding ring / maggot. Bait (not PB) for a few crappie & perch. Plugs for bass.

Mainly bait fisher.
Powerbait & worms, sometimes lures for trout and panfish.
Sturgeon- usually smelt or shrimp ( a note from a baiter - another good bait for sturgeon I have found, is steak, a little piece on the hook and they love it, once the blood leaches out then rebait).

Take a stab guess. Yup, 100% flies. But only because I haven't got around to fishing for some of the more exotic species yet. I know you can catch nearly everything on flies, but at certain depths and certain waters & conditions, and for certain species it ain't a real pracitcal, effective approach. Everything has it's place.......except powerbait that is.

During the summer I spend 80% of my fishing time fly and lite-spin fishing the lakes, creeks and rivers around Mt. St. Helens for trout. The other 20% is made up of smallmouth bass, crappie and summer steely fishing in and around the Columbia.

90% Flyfishing/tying 10% Gear troller
Used to be 100% flies/tying but, the ol' lady complained about the $$$. So I bought a boat and tricked it out. Gives her more to b**** about and me more of an excuse to get out fish!

I own up to being like Ivory Soap... only 99.46% pure for fly fishing. Occasional forays out with either powerbait or lures like the Dick Nite.
Now if baiters ever tried catching trout on fly rods they might be in for a surprise. Fish fight better on lighter rods. It makes the 10-13 inch planters seem bigger or friskier than they really are.
For those who are curious, I used a 1 weight last year on a remote lake up in BC. Far enough back where we spotted 8 bears and one moose on the drive in.
