i plan on going out tonight at midnight for the 2002 trout opener. has anyone had any success fishing at night?? any suggestions on glow in the dark lures or will the fish find it by vibration as opposed to sight?? caught 5 trout 3lbs or larger incidentally while bass fishing(they hit everything from crankbaits to tube jigs)couple days ago. i know where i'm going tonight...

I've caught some decent rainbows and browns in Eastern Washington at night using Big black Leech patterns. I would imagine any large black lure would work also. I would try something on the surface first. If that doesn't work try something that sinks. Most the time I have the best luck in the summer when its warm out and there is little or no moon. Good Luck.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Glow in the dark powerbait? Wish, wish, wish. wink

I have caught many fish at night, though mostly bass with noisy topwater lures. I have successfully caught trout at night in my fly fishing days, dragging big flies like leeches other big dark flies.

If you are doing the powerbait thing, attach one of those small green double bell contraptions to a toothpick or coffee stirrer, place the coffee stirrer or toothpick in one of the guides near the rod tip, and when yyou get a bite, the bells will ring. When you set the hooks, the bells will fall to the ground, so you don't have to listen to them ringing while you reel in your fish. Bring a flashlight to charge them up, as they also glow in the dark.

I also use a piece of PVC pipe, with a rebar spike as a rod holder. much more secure tha, leaning your rod up against your tackle box.

Best of luck!

Andy

We'll be on the water at midnight as well tonight, we usually use green powerbait floated about 18" off the bottom, the lake we are going to is pretty shallow (deepest is 11 feet). This works well and if we get tired we just bring in the poles and stretch out the boat seats and sleep for a while.
The bells work really well, word of caution, if you use the old cow bell style, take it off before you cast, my father in law lost 6 of them sturgeon fishing in one night.
Good luck

Got back home at 7:30 AM, the three of us had our limits, one limited at 3:05, another at 3:16, and the final one at 6:18.
