Thanks for the info, my friend. Are you serious about 20 to 30lbs line? I just stripped my 30 lbs and replaced it with 15 lbs!! 30 was what I used in AK. And every body here recommends 9 1/2 to 11 rods. That long, huh? Heavy line (BRAID!) is easier to work with. Plus, you'll never lose a float because your leader will break instead of your main line that has the float on it. Long rods allow better line control and allow you to keep the line off the water, allowing a more natural drift.

And every body here recommends 9 1/2 to 11 rods. That long, huh? I usually use an 8 1/2' when I float fish and do fine. But most of the places I use float fishing, I am casting pretty close to shore... It does help to have a longer rod if your casting farther out. Have fun on the Clack.

Someone should write a book on this. Ya' think? Talk about subtle pimping! Way to go Dave! Nothing but quality material here today. Sg Subtle? Naw, just flat out trying to get a book in his hands. The amount I make from a book sale wont buy a dozen sand shrimp. But it's sometimes frustrating to see guys asking questions that are already answered. As someone noted earlier, the books are available at the library for free. And I think a quick read would do a novice a ton of good. Dave, If I wanted my very own copy of your book, where would I find it. I am no longer welcome at my local library so guess I will have to buy one when the next check gets here, lol. I looked at Sportco in Fife but did not find it.

Power pro high vis braid, 20 gram or 25 gram Cleardrift float, 1/4 ounce inline sinker, 6-8lb leader (length depends on water conditions for me), jig of your choice and your fishing.

Dave,
I find the book on Amazon but the publish date shows 1995, is there a later version as suggested by Parker? Just want to have the latest info.
The library did not have a problem with me watching the porn because I was using my own laptop that I brought with me. I just use their internet connection. The problem was someone said your book was free at the library so I went and took a copy. When I left I was told to give it back and check it out. When I said but PP posters said it was free I was told not to come back again. Now I have to sit on the corner in front of Starbucks where I can get wireless connection to the internet but it is cold and windy and wet, just like steelheading I guess.

Funny that this topic has come up. Got a copy of Dave's book sitting next to the sh**tter for reading material. I was working at the Sun Newspaper with Drew Hawthorne about the time this book was printed. What is Drew up to now?

EB: that's what you get for being so literal. I think I would like you! I wrote two and a half books. One Float Fishing for Steelhead was published in 1995. It is still a great into to the basics.
In about 99 I coauthored a book with Drew Hawthorne titled Jig Fishing for Steelhead. It was okay for the time but not the best today.
Then in 2006 I published Jig fishing for Steelhead and Salmon. It has all the dope on both salmon and steelhead, and it covers float fishing pretty well too. I would recommend it as the best all round book of the three.
Metal addiction:
I do not know what happened to drew. He just dropped out of sight. If anyone knows what he’s up to I would love to know.
As for placment of your book I think that's the standard placment. If we had more constipated angler i could sell more books.

Thanks for the clarification on your books. I ordered a new jiggly steelhead and salmon one from Amazon. Could of bought a used one but this way you can put another shrimp on the barbie. Thanks for writing this with all the info!
