FishnFellaS:
Kind of you to ask. We headed over on Friday and were on the water about 3:30. Oh, that damn wind. Headed for any protected water we could find, mainly behind reed beds. Hooked one right away, on your green damsel that you gave me at another lake (thanks). Unfortunately, wasn't paying attention and that fly is now embedded in the jaw of some fish. We did okay on emerger patterns and ended up with about 10 fish total. The wind never let up and there were some strong gusts.
On Saturday, we intended to get out early, 0500. The wind had not let up at all, so we delayed our fishing day. Hit the water about 0700. Were greated with whitecaps. Again, hit the protected waters. Slow in the morning, but there were fish slashing in the rough water. Hit the shallows again and had the best luck on a light yellow, poly wing dry. It was great watching those fish hit the fly. The fish are as strong as I have ever seen them. A couple went 20 - 40 yards into my backing. Just couldn't slow them down! The wind let up about 11:00 for a couple of hours and it was hot! I tried a number of chronies throughout the trip, nothing, same as with WB's. Light dries or emergers seemed to be the ticket. One stomach sample showed a chronie type with a BRIGHT yellow head, black body - never seen one like it before.
We didn't expect the wind to die down on Sunday so we packed the gear up and headed back to camp. Of course, on Sunday we got up to light winds and should have left the gear at the lake.
That darn wind really zapped us. In addition, it was cold. Had snow on the pass coming back.
We'll meet up again.
