I'm going up in to Nimpo and a couple other lakes in 3 weeks. I'm going to take all the usual stuff ( wooley buggers, wolley worms, muddler minnows). Are there any other flies I should take, that I dont have listed? Thanks.

Never forget chironomids! Also, you need to check www.bcadventure.com. This site has info from some of the most authoritative flyfishing authors you can hope to find. What you learn there will certainly help you with fishing here in Washington, as our climate and overall fish habitat is similar enough. Forget Flyfisherman magazine! That one's for East Coast FF's. We need the REAL info, and BCAdventure is one of the best. The only comparable read would be Chan and Morris on Fly Fishing Trout Lakes. BCAd even has an index of bugs and flies to click on. Can't go wrong with this one! laugh laugh

HPB... Interesting that you're now asking questions on what flies to take up to Nimpo! Thought you didn't want your babies to grow up to be fly fishers. Have you changed your tune?

Well, I won't be the one to give away the basic fly fishermen secrets...but will leave you with two basic things. One... the weather is behind up in BC, same as it is down here. A fair amount of lakes just got ice free for the opener up there May 1st. And... the end of May is kind of early for out around Nimpo. Even if the lakes are open (and they should be by maybe one week), the roads to the surrounding lakes will be very sloppy and you may need chains and a winch to get around.

The BCadventure forum mentioned will give you good tips on the Nimpo area, but be forewarned the people there mainly fly fish.

When I fished Anahim I used to go the 3rd week of June. Wouldn't consider it as early as you are thinking of.

Zen.. did you not notice the smiley face at the end of that sentence. I have nothing at all against fly fishing, regardless of what I have posted in the past. What I didn't like was the posting that was targeted at me and others regarding our choice of teqnique. I fly fish frequently, I have the rods and the floattubes and all the rest but I like other means as well.

Anyways, I have chains, and an 8000lb winch on the front of my truck so it sounds like getting there will be half the fun. laugh

Zen.. I'm sorry if I got you and others riled up here on the forum, but if I remember correctly there was alot animosity from both sides. frown

I called the resort at Nimpo last week, and the ice has been off the lake for the last 2 weeks.

then all you need to worry about is the accompanying rising water from the snow melt. That's what you'll need the chains and winch for.

Try Hotnarko Lake if you want some big fish.

HBP--
take an assortment of Doc Spratley flies in green, redand black. It is probably the most effective 'searcher fly' for all of Canada.

It imitates several species and is a killer lure when all else fails due to high water etc.
