Hey Sal the boy don't look like a boy no more. Nice job.

I have trapped a couple of cats but have never seen one in the wild.
My coyote huntin buddy called one in and droped it last year on one of the days I didn't go.

Thats a cool trophy.

Yeah he is, its only an average tom.

I'm leaving in the morn for a northern coyote trip with my bud.
The kid's really bummed, he can't go this time.
I'll see how many I can miss this time around.

Wild guess for me....the buddy's ranch where you deer and turkey hunt.
Ranchers love guys to come out in the winter and take care of the cats and dogs.
I had one that wanted me to come out and shoot rattlers in the summer so I could deer hunt his land. Pass!
Nice work on the dogs.

Holy moly! That's a lot of coyotes! I'd think it would take many, many square miles of range to support that many coyotes, and I might be amazed to learn how high their population density can get.

Coyotes are probably one of the most resilient of all wild species.
When you hear them howling they are communicating and testing turf.
Often the howls are a chain reaction that goes on for miles and miles.
When they don't hear howls in areas that offer good habitat, they move in.
I've been told by biologists that even if you tried to eliminate them all it is highly doubtful that you would succeed.
The range that these were taken from will see a spike in rodents and deer & antelope fawns and will provide a bounty of nutrients for the coyotes that move in from surrounding areas.
Those well fed females will in turn have bigger litters of pups in the spring and the cycle will complete itself all over again.
The photo with all of the dead ones in it is indeed from a very large area.

Excuse me, I've got more skinning to do.

Salmonella, i hope you didn't think I was coming down on you with my last comment. I think that you had an amazing weekend and I realize it won't take long for more coyotes to move in. I was just amazed and really, really jealous.
