Twitch:
Having spent many years working in kitchens (slicing, burning, and bludgeoning my hands into stumps of scar tissue in the process), I have something of a sick fascination with wounds like the one your future Mrs. is enduring. In this particular case, my fascination is with the fact that she managed to do so much damage while cutting an avocado, which, in my experience, is generally a fairly soft and forgiving item.
What's the story behind the gorey? Sick minds want to know.... FF, She runs the dietary program at an assisted living facility. This involves doing a lot of the meal prep. A secondary dream has been to also go to culinary school... She's one of those types that can put a head of cabbage on a cutting board, go all ginsu on it, and have coleslaw in like 10 seconds. She also prefers to hold things in her hand when cutting/trimming them; tops off radishes, peeling potatoes with a knife, not a peeler... etc. In this case, she was de-pitting avocados with a paring knife. Slice in half, stick blade under pit, flick it out, then peel out the guts. As she tried to flip out one of the pits, the whole shitaree slipped in her hand, and wha-la, fillet-o-finger.

Damn! I wouldn't tell her right away, but a small slice in the top of the exposed seed and a twist takes the seed right out. Forget the "flipping"/slicing-my-finger thing. How to....

Next time spend the money and have a professional sew her up. Exactly what I said when she came home!!! "Where did your boss take you, Bi-Mart?" 'A few more granny knots here... maybe run one through that flapper thing there, ah yes, a couple quick ones in the proximal inter-phalangeal joint .... ooh, I'm gonna run one last one right through the distal inter-phalangeal joint just for inconvenience sake',..." Hey, do we have any Sufix? This Chameleon is murder on knots!... Doc originally told here 6 stitches should do, then added a few more in the gaps of the original six after he looked at it again...

Did something similiar while watching a Seahawks game once. The rams fumbled inside the 5, the hawks recovered it. The bar went nuts. I started banging one of those glass ashtrays ...(long ago when you were free to smoke in taverns....)

Dr. Hamfist needs to spend a little time at the tying bench. I knew that with no whip finish it wasn't you, Twitchie.

You shoulda clamped that thing in your vise and gone skrunk style on the stitches there Mr. Twitch. Might as well add a little bling while you put things back together Slices aren't very much fun. I hope the little lady is doing well and not too traumatized. Clean edges, should heal up nicely. She probably didn't miss tendons by too much. In a moment of stupidity, a good friend of mind went to stick his fillet knife into the cleaning table after a round of silver carving. As he did so, his hand slid off of the handle and onto the blade, cutting all 4 of his fingers immediately down to the bone. He called his father, a doctor, who told him not to go to the hospital but to get on the next plane home to Seattle so he could make sure things were sorted out correctly. He did get tendons, and still has some issues today. Best of luck and watch out for renegade avocados.

JFC! I just saw this for the first time today. Looks more like 15# Chameleon to me. That's like cable to an eye surgeon. Wonder what it looked like before filling in the "gaps". I think I could implant an artificial lens in between each of those stitches. You need to show us a pic of what it looks like now. Can she straighten the finger without having to use the opposite hand?

Yeah, I know I'm wierd but I always wanted to try stitching someone up. I have removed stitches from myself and others but think it would be "interesing"to try to patch up living flesh. Prettyt sure a square knot would look as good as what the finger fixer did. A double uni would be a lot of work but would look really good.

She is one of my best layers. Made my incision, drained and flushed teh abcess, then stitched her up. She was the only hen of mine that was able to pull off her own clutch in the woods.

Have done surgery to remove and abscess or two from chickens and sewed a couple up that had tears in the skin. They all survived and lived for years afterwards.

No pinky wrestling for a while. hey, it made me laugh.. Would like to see what that sexy digit looks like after that haywire job... Pics please, Twitch. Leave it to Doc to dig up old ass threads! Seems to have healed fine with no ill effects, though one of her favorite things to do is hold her pinky up in the air and say things like "Yup, gonna rain tomorrow..." I'll try to get a pic later. Currently she's in the big city trying to find everything on my Christmas list

Reminds me of a story about my Grandma years ago (1940's) on the farm.
My grandfather had a horse name Scabbyhitler(I don't know the reason behind the horses name) that only he could ride. While he was in the field there was a boy in the barn(who was told not to ride him) and decided to try him out. Got to close, horse kicked him then ran out to my grandpa in the field. He thought that was kind of wierd and went into the barn, found the boy passed out with a huge gash in his leg and bleeding profusely. He carried him in the house to my grandma, she took out her needle and thread and got to work. When she was done they loaded him into the pickup, went to the hospital, the doctor saw him and said looks good, so they went home.
